Wow another bad day for clowns on CF who were saying these two would get a huge return and laughed at my offers, only to get less than i proposed. Boom

Terrific.

The East is just stupid lmao

Great trade for the Leafs. LETS GO

I posted the exact same trade with McCabe at retention and Lafferty to the Oilers for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and was told it was a massive overpayment. And, I included a cap dump in Foegele. Homers always homer.

lol.
When you have a prospect pool with Knies, Minten, Niemela, Hirvonen, Grebyonkin, Amirov, Robertson, etc... not too worried about picks.
Leafs are in better shape than Boston, Tampa, and Florida in terms of future assets.

Amirov has brain cancer.
Robertson is made of glass
Knies is a strong prospect
Niemela and Hirvonen are meh at best
Minten is young, could develop, but likely nothing special

None of what was actually said proves me wrong though. They're extoling his virtues, but that doesn't mean he is good lmao. Every prospect can have a positive spin on it. If you pull their reports from draft and draft + years you'll see that he isn't well liked. For example:

Tony Ferrari's piece yesterday is the definition of "damning with faint praise"

That doesn't mean he is totally awful (I mean he is vs the other options at the draft time imo), as there is upside if he can unlock it (duh), but contrast that to Topi (this is the entire blurb on him):

Ok lets do this:

Just from rumours we have Laf worth as much as a 1st (which he didn't get). Haven't seen Domi rumoured to be there at all. Points really don't matter that much in individual eval - particularly not as a deadline rental vs a multi-year cheaply contracted player - See Jeannot, Goodrow, etc if you need any proof of that.
Secondly, a LATE 1st in 2025.

If I need to tell you how little value a late 1st in 2025 has then there really isn't much point in continuing this convo. Time value + pick value, yeah I'd rather have Topi (so I am very happy with how this came out).

So your entire argument is draft pedigree. Had the rags not traded up for Schneider Mook would have been taken right around where Topi was (iirc mook was ranked around 50th depending on who you asked).

I'm not gonna bother with the other guy anymore. I've already dedicated far too much time to his nonsense between yesterday and today. You at least seem reasonable even though we disagree

Nitpick those articles all you want. They literally RANKED them.

And both Wheeler (who didn't think niemela was worth mentioning at all in his best prospects list) and Pronnman ranked Shakir better. SIgnificantly.

All that about Niemela and they still say his CEILING is a high end 3rd pair, low end 2nd pair.

That is also true. People like their guys. That includes me, and you, and everyone else. Just gotta do your best to try and slice through the BS and figure out (rough) return values - only for GMS to go and trade 5 picks for Tanner Jeannot lmao

I could do this with basically any teams prospects.
Amirov is obviously a unique case.

Still stands. Leafs have better prospect pools than other teams in their division.

They also have a lot of guys right on the cusp.

Holmberg, Mcmann, Steeves, Abruzzese, SDA.

Leafs are in great shape. I know that is upsetting to you.

Well considering your second best prospect would be between the 5th and 7th best prospect in my teams system, and Knies would be the 4th, I'd disagree that you can do it for any team

I feel Canes will go get JVR or buy low on Kerfoot

Seems like their kind of move

As other than Skeji they dont seem to want to spend 1sts at the TDL

The Canes surely do love themselves some ex Leafs, they have a long history of poaching them.

5 currently on the roster; Anderson, Gardiner, Kase, Noesen, Dzingel.

So confirmed, JVR to the Canes.

Rumored ask for McCabe with retention was a 1st; and for Lafferty it was a 2nd. I just don't see how you can call it a win for Dubas when he met the asking price for the players - at best you call it a fair deal, but I think I lean Chicago W because Davidson set a price and he got it.

Asking price for McCabe was a 1st. With retention it was a 1st +. Retention for 3 seasons is probably worth a 2nd alone!

Dude, my opinion is based on
1) Toronto's track record (no 2nd round win in 20 years)
2) TB's line up (let me know which position Toronto is stronger. I'll wait)
3) Dubas won't be renewed without at least making it to the eastern conference final
4) Toronto's draft assets are weak ( 6/8 of the 1st and 2nd are gone in the next 4 years) and prospect pool is in the last tier of the league.
5) Matthews hitting free agency in 2024

Those are all facts and they lead to only one place: Long rebuild.

Amazing how you say "those are all facts" when most of them are false or highly debateable.
Shows how biased you actually are.
Lets go through your points:

1) This is the only actual fact. However, the last 20 years isn't relevant to this season. Last year is relevant and the series was a coin flip.
2) The series last year was neck and neck. Its a very close series and other than goaltending I could make a case for the Leafs D or forward group.
3) This isn't a fact at all. Just an idea you pulled out of your a$$
4) Their prospect pool is quite good. Completely false.
5) Matthews likely won't even get to free agency. Even if he did, Nylander and Marner would re-sign and the team would still be very competitive with an extra 11.6 mill in cap space.

110% Nylander will test the free agent market before finalizing a deal with Dubas .

Matthews will get signed as a late Xmas gift to Leaf fans next winter. Though the $14 million range AAV will likely force Nylander to hit the UFA market.

I know the blackhawks probably trend to be bad for the duration of the salary retention, but it still seems odd to see a team absorbing significant money over time for a player that it seemed alot of people valued, even at 4mil a season

The truth is Dubas called in "future consideration" favors for sending the Hawks a 1st Rd pick to take Mrazek (who will help the Hawks secure 2 top 5 overall Draft picks with his poor play).

If the Leafs determined that they weren't going to be able to sign Matthews, they would sign Nylander easy...
Matthews will likely sign in the summer. Nobody wants to deal with the media every single day asking about when a deal is getting done.

ohyea I forgot pending UFAs can sign contract renewals any day of the week, it's only pending RFAs that have to follow certain datelines.
