Not sure why he would be cheaper. If anything, the Orlov deal set a comparable value for a rental top-four defenseman.

Columbus wants picks for gavrikov. Think if you were a gm wouldn’t you want to scout and draft you’re own guys? He will get around what Hathaway and Orlov went for

One snag though, Gavrikov sucks. Got completely caved in the last 2 games against the Leafs

Gavrikov isn't a Top 4 on any contender, and would be a 7th Dman on the Leafs.

He's average at best, but lays a lot of hits and blocks a lot of shots to stand out.

Probably slightly less though, Washington also took Smith back and Jarmo has been pretty adamant about not taking a contract back, but we’ll see what happens.

I don't disagree, but he's been playing that role on the Blue Jackets and that's how he's being marketed right now. Unless a better comparable comes along, the Orlov deal is going to set the price.

I agree, they had to give up a bit more for getting them to take Smith. Taking out the 2nd should even things out, and align with what Columbus has said they're looking for.

I think a team would be dumb to pay it, as I don't think Gavrikov is that good, but I think that's what the cost is.

Gavrikov is better then his stats say, he is overplayed and has had to player higher in the lineup then he should be. Gavrikov should be on the 2nd pair and player 18-20 minutes a night, not on the top pair playing 22-25 minutes a night like he has been asked to do much of the last 2 seasons with Werenski out of the lineup. He would be a great 3rd pair LHD on a contender to play PK and play the harder minutes from the top pair guys to make their games easier to play. Then again that’s not something the majority of fans think about when trading for a player is about how it might make the job for the other players easier, like for Toronto it would make Giordano’s job easier so he doesn’t have to play all penalty minutes and top 4 minutes, he can play half the penalty minutes and top 4 minutes which is 4-6 minutes a night and that can add up in the playoffs.

I would agree that he's a solid 3rd pairing defender on a contender. I just don't think that's worth a 1st round pick.

If that’s what the market is set at then that’s what it is. I also know that fans value picks a lot more than some GMs do, especially those who are trying to win a cup, some get pretty desperate to win so they sell off picks to win (looks at Florida and Tampa).

He's not better than Alec Martinez, and Martinez got two 2nds with over a year left on his deal.

I'm not saying that he won't get it, just that it would be a significant overpayment by someone if they paid that price.

I’m not saying if it was the year Martinez was traded Gavrikov wouldn’t get a single 2nd, I don’t set the market. I just know that Chiarot got a 1st last year, Savard got a 1st, a few years ago and Manson got a 2nd and an A level prospect.

Like I said I don’t set the market, I just read what insiders and reporters say. Though I also think that helps Vancouver get more for Schenn as I think he is better.

Even if you think Gavrikov is a lesser option than Orlov, this is still miles below what Washington just got. Orlov/Hathaway just got a 1st/2nd/3rd back with a contract coming back. So if Kerfoot = Craig Smith in this equation, you can't tell me that Gavrikov/Korpisalo's value drops all the way to Niemela and a 4th next year. If anything, taking an option off the market would make me think that Gavrikov's price would creep up some - or at least stay similar to what we've been hearing all along. This just doesn't come close.

The ask was a 1st and 4th for Gavrikov. The Orlov trade did nothing to lessen that value.

I think the issue is canes, kraken, Devils, Avs, jets, Rangers and Vegas are the only teams with a first this year still to move. Which of those teams top need is a top 4 lhd?

Jackets are scouting the jets farm team tonight for what it’s worth. No chance we trade a 1st for a left d when we need it for a top 6 forward. We’ve heard Meier, schmaltz, maybe a panthers forward.

Then we’ve heard about maybe a depth d like kulikov. Chevy usually likes bringing in a vet to be the healthy scratch when we’re a playoff team. Anaheim is also scouting us tonight along with san Jose.

It's amazing that people can get away with pretending that they know anything about Gavrikov after they say he's a guy who hits a lot. There's a whole lot of imposters in this thread.
