Agreed the Flyres accept, but I feel like getting a C is actually really helpful. The prospect pool at C is still pretty unproven except Cates, and the NHL depth is rough.

I'm banking on us not getting out from under Coots and Hayes, while also having Frost, Cates, and Laughton who can play C. I think we lack depth and playmaking abilities on the wings and would like another opportunity of maybe one panning out for us. Farabee looks rough but I think that's due to injury. Would love to have Cam back but his injury seems just as mysterious as Ellis, TK may be moved, and who knows who else. Tuomala seems like a bust, and we also have Foerster who should be a C, although who knows with that. And isn't Cutter a C as well? Just feels like we have too many and this guy would just be lost in the shuffle.

Think they're keeping TK at least for this TDL. Agreed with Tuomala. However, I think wingers are a little easier to draft/develop. Similar to in baseball, someone may not pan out in CF but can shift to LF or RF. Cutter is a LW who they say can play C and they want him to, but until he actually plays it who knows. I think Frost may be better on the wing long term to be honest, unless he really steps up on D (he's been better this year). Laughton is kind of like Raffl in my eyes, can play anything but probably best as bottom six winger.

Make it the '23 3rd and the '24 4th and the Hawks probably accept. B's can even keep DiPietro. Hawks don't have a spot for him to play anyway

So just to be clear, in the philly trade: the bruins get worse, take on salary, and give up a first to do so.

No thanks.

Honestly, if you guys are saving room for Pasta's extension next year, you would do WAY worse than JVR. A veteran winger who can chip in on the power play and isn't a complete liability for only 3.5mm isn't terrible. yeah he has 7 points in his last 20 games but the Flyers overall have been a dumpster fire during that time after their western Canada sweep - a change of scenery to a contending team could put him back where he was back earlier in the season when he 16 points in 20 games.

So we’re saying he’s a winger, and one that is not suited for a 4th line role, right?

When healthy the bruins right side is debrusk, pastrnak, and Fredric. All worlds better than jvr. All cheaper too, but really were just talking about frederic, who is $2.5m less than a 50% retained JVR. Left side is Marchand, zacha, and hall. All worlds better than JVR.

So what’s better than JVR? Not doing anything. If we’re talking about a 13th forward, there are better options.

one of the weak spots in the Bs depth is a finisher on the 3rd line. Freddy does well but would also be a good addition to the 4th and make greer the extra forward (assuming Smith gets moved) so JVR could add a scoring touch to the Hall Coyle line as they seem to be sputtering offensively.

JVR has more points than Frederic in 15 less games......Freddy is worlds better than JVR? yeah, no, that's not true.

Now, would I rather have him over JVR for my long term outlook, hell yes. Even maybe next year. But the fact remains the Bruins could use more scoring since their otherworldly start and a big body on the PP on the 2nd unit who has been a very good PP player for his career, would not hurt. His contract is off the books next year anyway and it's not like you're giving up a lot of value to get him.

Stop being so biased.

One more point in 14 fewer games - but, JVR gets 5 more minutes per game, and has been used with the top of the flyers lineup. Frederic has primarily been 3RW, but has bounced between that role, and a 4th line role while nosek is out. Frederic also has more even strength points (and goals) in less ice time than JVR. Neither of those players are touching the powerplay, so you have the following:
Defensive play - frederic
Versatility - frederic
5 on 5 goal scoring - frederic
5 on 5 point production - frederic.
Physicality - frederic
PK ability - frederic

Ya, worlds better.

So your solution to this is to go get a guy that scores less at 5 on 5 than frederic, both in terms of points and goals, and has an 11% shooting percentage compared to Frederics 16.3%?

That’s a really bad idea if you’re looking for scoring touch and finishing. 13 EV goals vs 7. 16.3% shooting percentage vs 11.3%. So what are you talking about?

So having a guy who is a proven producer on the power play isn't something you want? Someone who has more points per game than said player. Someone who has 70+ playoff games under his belt compared to 4. Someone who is a veteran and can handle the situation.

Maybe look up from your computer with all your fancy stats from time to time and you'll actually see what a hockey trade is. I bet you are a part of the crowd who wouldn't want to trade for Kane because of his advanced metrics and his 2% Projected WAR this year.

I’m the opposite of that. I wouldn’t want to trade for kane because I’ve watched him, and outside of two games, he’s been hot garbage.
I wouldn’t want JVR because he’s not good enough to be in the boston bruins lineup. Simple. Frederic is better at 5 on 5, and there would have to be a catastrophic string of injuries for him to sniff the PP. if he was making $1M and could be a 14th forward? Sure. To actually play? God no. Have you seen the bruins this year? No shot.

hahaha i knew it. doesn't matter the reason why, but the fact you wouldn't want a guy like Kane is ridiculous. Guy has 10 point in his last 4 games, what do you expect him to do on a last place team who has all but given up? They're only human, act like you wouldn't be at the top of your game either. I don't blame Kane at all. The skill level of who he is playing with also has taken a dive.

As I said, open your eyes and see things the numbers can't show. For instance, Kane instantly going to a team in a playoff race, playing with skilled players than before....it's never EVER happened that a player goes to another situation and gets hot and helps a team compete for a cup?

Numbers don't paint 100% of the picture guy, you have a team full of guys who are good at 5-on-5, what you don't have is a capable scorer on the 3rd line that can chip in. Freddy is also better suited on the 4th line, stop trying to put lipstick on a pig already.

Well see here’s the thing - I’m not an idiot. I don’t look at 4 games and throw out the previous 50. He’s sucked. Reasons? Tons. The legs aren’t the same. The energy isn’t the same. He’s a defensive liability. His neutral zone play without the puck is trash.

Not sure what you didn’t understand about the previous post - quite literally do not understand how you possibly missed this - I’m not a numbers guy. I don’t care about the fancy stats. I don’t even know where to find those stupid charts, or the WAR/GAR/expected whatever. I watch. Kane has sucked.

But why are we talking about kane? This is about JVR, who sucks even more than kane has this season. JVR could not crack the bruins roster. Full stop.

You literally just said I don't look at 4 games and throw out the previous 50. Those are numbers no??? I explained all the reasons why those games, you wanna call it 50, fine - there are reasons for it. To not want a guy like Kane, who if you did watch, you would see, is a difference maker even at 33, it's just ridiculous how you don't see it. When he does switch teams and puts up a point per game on a playoff team, ill be back to remind you.

Back to JVR, agree to disagree, he would fit in well with this Bruins team. They have very responsible two way centers, who would allow him to operate the way he likes. He could add to their 2nd PP unit, Frederic cannot. And in the playoffs, he would add to a veteran group who knows how to deal with the pressure and adversity of the playoffs, something your boy Freddy can't compare with.

Agree to disagree bud, but you're wrong, and I think a lot of people would disagree with you that he wouldn't crack the B's roster. Plain and simple.

Lol, “agree to disagree, but you’re wrong.” What a ridiculous statement.

Anyway, so I say i’m not a big stat guy and more of an eye test guy, but i’m not ignoring a 50 game sample (i didn’t make that number up, he’s played 54 games this year) because of four games and you say, “see, those are numbers!” That would be like me saying, “oh, you’re talking about Patrick kane being 33? See, numbers!” He’s also not 33 btw.

JVR would be fine….as a 13th or 14th forward. He’s not a fourth line guy and the bruins have six wingers that are worlds better than him. He’s not good enough to be on their second PP. just look at the roster man. It’s just not a thing.

Kane has been bad this season, plain and simple. Hang on to nostalgia all you want, but he hasn’t been that offensive dynamo, and he’s a liability defensively. Not a fit.

World's better, you're a joke if you think that. Do you know what worlds better means? it's like comparing Brandon Manning to Charlie McAvoy, McAvoy is worlds better. Trent Frederic, Pavel Zacha, Nick Foligno, et al, are not worlds better. Sorry to say, you are wrong. Now, would I want JVR for the next 5 years over any of them? Maybe Foligno, but the answer is no, I can admit that. However, that is not what our conversation is about. it's about the next 4 months. And adding a guy who would really be your 9th-11th best forward, for a playoff run, is something a contender should do. Especially for the cost.

JVR is better than 3 of your forwards, it's facts. His production says it, his overall play has said it, and his experience says he would be more valuable than what you have on your roster. There are injuries in the post season all the time, injuries leading up to the post season all the time (see Matty Barzal), it would implore GM's to add players who can contribute in putting the puck in the net. You don't want JVR....fine, that's a better case than everything you have said in every single response. That's almost impossible so congratulations.

You're also wrong about Kane, and majority of the hockey world would agree with me. End of story.

Ya foligno didn’t enter this discussion. Here’s the issue: JVR is not a 4th line style player while maybe being more talented than some of the bruins fourth liners, his presence on that line would hurt the identity and mission of that line.

Prior to yesterday, the bruins had nine forwards that are better in a top nine role than JVR. There’s no question about it. No debating it. It just is what it is. Now it might be 10. I certainly like Hathaways game way more than JVRs. I would love JVR as a 13th forward, but his contract makes that impossible.

You should listen to 32 thoughts regarding Kane.

What the hell are you talking about, you are saying he would be a 13th forward when I am naming clear upgrades in your top 12...

Your second point is not true. There are forwards in your top 9 that JVR is better than. There are players he is better than on the power play. You just simply don't want him or don't like his contract, which is fine, but these are just bull**** excuses.

I'm done arguing, like talking to a wall.

Should i just re-write what i just wrote?

JVR. Is. Not. A. 4th. Line. Player.

He’s not good enough to be in the top nine. End of story. There’s a reason the bruins are 44-8-5. Their top nine is good. JVR isn’t good enough for it.

Do I have to say it again???

"There are forwards in your top 9 that JVR is better than."

yes, there are reasons they are 44-8-5, dont act like Craig Smith and Nick Foligno were a part of that.

Foligno is an excellent fourth liner. JVR can’t play a fourth line role.

Why don’t you tell me who in the top nine JVR is better than?

Teams are made up of 12 forwards. Let's see if you can do math.

JVR is better than:
Nick Foligno
Trent Frederic
AJ Greer
Garnet Hathway
Tomas Nosek (when healthy)

Now, 12 - 4 players = 8. Does 8 fall within 1-9?

OK, thank you.
