I told pens fans all summer that I thought swapping Marino and Matheson for Petry, Smith and Poehling wouldn’t work out. I genuinely feel bad for y’all. This wasn’t as bad as Toews, but it was bad.

Realistically, I feel like the 2 main teams that would maybe want him are EDM & OTT, but I dont think Petry wants to go back to Canada.
BUF might be a team that would want a vet like that, but not sure.
FLA also seems like a team that would want him, but cap would be so hard to work out.

Trading John Marino, then trading Matheson for Petry, just to trade Petry for nothing significant would be hilarious. Maybe he wants to acquire Chychrun, if not hopefully he at least does something. I guess the silver lining is that if he's just trying to dump Petry, that he's willing to admit to a possible mistake (not sure how Petry has been doing).

Wasn't Dallas one of the teams that were interested in Petry (think he was interested too) but they wanted retention? So, maybe if Vancouver retains enough on Boeser, Pittsburgh can retain and make a trade with Dallas.

Other than a cap dump, I'm not sure what the motive is. I agree the Petry trade in the first place was not smart, at the very least not really needed. But is Petry just a cap dump or would he be involved in a bigger trade to address the real issue of the bottom 6?

Honestly if Bailey was a UFA at the end of the season or had a significantly lower cap hit I could maybe see Hextall actually doing that just as a cap space move for the offseason.
