You can't say Carter retires and put him on LTIR. Put him under buyout then because his cap hit will still apply, even if he retires.

Carter's cap hit stays if he retires so that kind of blows up this team. Also, 86mil salary cap? Did I miss something?

There's ample history of players "retiring" to LTIR (See: Pronger, Chris), which is what I meant to imply by the quotation marks: this does not assume technical retirement, it assumes functional retirement. However they work that out.

If they can't and absolutely need to keep his hit on the roster in some way, bury him and find a way to shave the extra $1.6M off contracts and make it fit, that's not totally impossible to do, I don't think. Maybe you can get Jarry, Bertuzzi, and Zucker each for $500k less and you're about right there.

AFAIK the Cap is rumoured to head up around $3-4M this next season, which is why I went with $86M. This is for the 23-24 Season, ICYMI.

Cap is only set to go up one mil next season, big jump for the 24-25 season. In order to LTIRetire, there needs to be a medical reason that is convincing enough to hang them up.
