Description
15-18-33 in 33 on the best NCAA team in the country as a DY+1
20-16-36 in 32 on the best NCAA team in the country as a DY+2

What makes Knies so good? He is a great player. He will be a great NHLer. How is he untouchable? Like he isnt dominating the NCAA. He is in the perfect situation. He is also a winger. Jimmy Snuggerud is over a year younger and outproducing him, yet STL fans are not claiming him to be untouchable lol. I just dont get it. Being just over a PPG as a DY+2 in NCAA is not some crazy accomplishment lol. Hell id say Voit should be held in higher regard. Hes dominating his respective league, Knies isnt.

Anyways here are the lines id do for ROS assuming no trades

The idea is that he's our most valuable prospect. He wouldn't be flipped unless we're getting someone of Meier's caliber in return.

Sure, he's no Bedard or any other guy like him, but he has a genuine top 6 upside. A big power forward with good puck skills and a massive improvement on his skating. Combine that with him being a LW, which is what we're needing in our top 6. He's valuable to Toronto, which makes him near untouchable.

Voit is great, but undersized. It's also easy to produce in the CHL if you're a half decent player. He needs work and time.
Also, 36 points in 32 games isn't "not dominating", I'd say that's pretty valuable.

I think thats fair, but would he be moved for Chychrun lets say? Knies + protected 1st for Chychrun?

Not a Leafs fan, but there's another level of obsession when you're their best prospect. Robertson a couple years ago was gonna be a 40-goal guy in the show. With that said, Knies doesn't have crazy good point production but he also has a lot of habits that translate well to the NHL. Not sure if he'll be as good as everyone's saying he'll be, but I can easily see him being a regular NHL'er

Doubt it. Like I said, our need is on the left side. Knies will get some games under his belt when his season in college is complete, and he might be the missing piece we need on the JT and Marner line.
Chychrun isn't really a need, I'd say a big body like McCabe would be a clear upgrade over Holl and a better player for a playoff run.

Absolutely. The quote from Dubas was never 'Knies is untouchable'. It was that Knies wouldn't be moved for a rental. Any deal for a big player with term, like a Chychrun or Meier, you could count on Knies being part of the package.

Our need isn't in Chychrun. We have back end players who can move the puck. If we're doing any sort of move on our back end, it should be to upgrade Holl with a more physical presence.

Until you realize McCabe has just as many playoff games played as Jack Eichel

It's not for experience, it's for his physical play. If we're able to get 2m retained, it's the same amount of money for a player 3x Holl's caliber.

Ok, and? The Leafs wouldn't trade for Chychrun but if they did, Knies would probably be part of the package going back.

Need to think of the cap implications as well. The Leafs don't have much cap and only 1 core member extended beyond 3-years. The cap can't rise fast enough for them, so an ELC contract would help them a lot.

It's a combo of him being the Leafs best prospect and the tools he already has. The Leafs don't have any PF's, especially on the left side. Points aren't everything but Knies is scoring at a pretty good rate for the NCAA.
