Description
This ROR trade has me all twisted on values at this point. I want feed back. There are no returns listed as I want to get a sense from people what it would take for each player.

I'm using players the Pens have been tied to from various articles, so only players that potentially on Hextall's radar, not our own preferences.

DON'T TELL ME THEY DON'T HAVE THE PIECES.

If a team is willing to deal with you, they'll take your best possible package, so just pick the best you feel you can get from the Pens.

Obviously not going after ALL of these players.

Let's assume a few things:
1) Hextall is willing to trade ALL futures.
2) The only current roster players available (not by choice) : McGinn, Heinen, Kapanen and Blueger
3) The money HAS to work, so think of it in terms of retention and/or taking a body back.

I just really cant see Vancouver being interested in much from the pens, I think it would have to start with an unprotected 1st this year, outside of that pens really dont have anything that fixes an organizational need

The issue with Barby is not that they do not have the pieces, it's that they don't have the right pieces. Their prospects are either too valuable to be traded for Barby (I.e. Pickering), not the right fit (Smith) or not tempting enough (everyone else with the possible exception of Hallander). Now if the Pens want to trade a 1st for Barby with retention and Dumo or Blueger coming back to help with cap, fine. I just doubt Hextall is gonna do that.

Man, I still can't get last the taste of last night's loss out of my mouth. Seeing the ROR trade was a punch in the gut too, not because of ROR being off the table now but because I see other GMs getting creative to make trades work. I have no idea what's going on in Hextall's head and now it may be too late.

It probably is too late in the sense that he now has two options as I see it:

        1) Auction off the farm and join the eastern conference arms race
        2) Do nothing.

Making any small moves to bolster the bottom six at this point are fairly worthless.

Look man, I'm not sure what wasn't clear in the description. You are simply wrong. EVERY year people tell us nobody wants what we have, yet somehow we land quality players with what we have. Ducks fans were shutting down EVERY SINGLE Rackell trade saying we don't have things they want. Here we are.

I'm trying realllll hard to not be a dick, but it's hard when people can't simply read.

I'm sure they do, but I'm curious to see what the ripple effect is. The way I see it either it helps them and every friggin player from Barabanov to Domi get a 1st, or the rest of the GM's pause and say no friggin way if this is what the market is like.

It COULD possibly backfire or maybe I just hope it does.

I would certainly trade Adam Henrique with 50% retention ($2,912,500) for Kapanen ($3.2 million) and your 2023 first-rounder. You even pick up $300,000 in cap space.

As someone who holds your opinion in high regard (and thus wouldn't want to see you make a mistake), I feel impelled to point out that Vancouver still hasn't reactivated Thatcher Demko from the IR list, and the Canucks have only 5 games after tonight before the trade deadline.

I read just fine and you are not trying near hard enough. Not only is my reply on topic and substantial in content, it's accurate. What some other team did some other time has no bearing with Army. And again, it's not Pittsburgh vs. St. Louis, or even Pittsburgh vs. me and my take. It's Pittsburgh vs. like 10 teams. And I did say you had stuff too good to trade for Barby, as well. So save the comprehension vapors, and follow your own instructions. You'll live longer. It's not a good fit isn't the answer you want, but it IS a relevant answer.

Or pay attention to the Team Title.

I appreciate the feedback and also hold yours in high regard. In regards to VAN, I was just going off "rumblings." I know they're still trying to get out of their own way, but it's entirely possible the Pens go after a goalie. Just not sure who or how.

In regards to Henrique, I think that would be more than fair and something Hextall should absolutely consider. Previous to the current arms race in the east, I would have been fine with some minor tweaks to the bottoms six. Picking up someone like Barabanov or Barbashev on wing and someone like Travis Boyd as a 3C, but now, the Pens need to go big or not do anything.

My point is, your original thought is a common theme on capfriendly and wrong more often than not. As much as we have our own feelings and thoughts, it's clear GMs do the opposite. What we value is not the same as them. Everyone said we'd need to send a 1st and top prospects to get Rakell, but that the Pens don't even have the assets ANA wants anyway and look what happened. We sent a 2nd and decent goalie prospect and some trash.

So the point of this AGM for people to put aside their own personal feelings and identify the pieces available and pick the ones that make the most sense. I get YOU don't think there's any that makes sense, but that's simply not the reality. If STL, for their own personal reasons, wants to deal with the Pens, they will and get the pieces that make the most sense. People on here get too caught up in their own minds and don't pay attention how things actually pan out.

We seem to forget that GM's have their own agenda and own likes and dislikes that more often than most, don't line up with what we think.

I don’t care what you wrote in the description, they don’t have the assets to beat out 90% of the league
