I wish it was that easy, we put up with benning for 8 years, cried out for his firing, there were people flying planes in protest of him and the aquilinis and there are regular chants at the Rog for "sell the team." Nothing ever happens, and it sucks

-Vegas isn't just going to give up a 1st this year to take back Varlamov at full freight. You've gotta fully retain on Varlamov (getting him down to $2.5M) and take back a bad contract - thankfully, Laurent Brossoit is right there with his $2.325M expiring deal. I'd think that would be more up VGK's alley - Varlamov's numbers are strong (.917 SV%, 2.64 GAA) and he has a ton of playoff experience. I still don't think Vegas gives up a straight 1st - most likely, it's a conditional 2nd with the chance to become a 1st based on how far they go in the playoffs and how much Varlamov plays, like the MAF trade last year.

-Probably what Mayfield gets - I think you can push for a little more (and I'd also offer retention to see if you can juice the return, too).

-We all know Parise is only moving if he tells Lou it's okay. I think this is his value if he does go, though - he's on a 22-goal pace right now and only makes $750K. Someone gives up a 3rd all day for that.

-I'm not sure about moving JGP - especially in-division. I think he's probably overpaid by about $1M so the retention makes sense; I just think that the return here isn't really good enough to open up a hole at 3C and occupy a retention slot for a few years. I'd revisit this in the offseason if they want to do a full overhaul, but I just don't love it at the deadline -there will be more teams with the optimism of a fresh start and cap space to burn this summer, making it easier to move Pageau to a team that's not on his NTC - and possibly even without retention!
