You guys win the game against Washington at the end of the month and by the trade deadline, you could be within 4 points of the Capitals with 4 games in hand (with wins against Anaheim, San Jose, Florida and Columbus). Don't give up just yet.

You forgot to mention Detroit, Florida and the Islanders who won't be sitting idly by. Adams will do nothing to help the team...he's sitting 12th from the bottom and looking at another top 10 pick.
He loves it.

It says:
Our best estimate of the scoring peak age is between 27 and 28 for forwards and between 28 and 29 for defencemen. Both forwards and defencemen exhibit near-peak performance over a wide range, going from about 24 to 32 and 24 to 34, respectively. Goaltenders display little systematic performance variation over most of the age range from the early 20s to late 30s.
12 Sabres who have played at least 20 games are 24 or younger with another four only 25.
Voila Cozens just turned 22 and he is just under a pt per game.
It is amazing the both Tuch 26 yo and Olofsson 27 yo are having the best years of their careers.

Since this study estimates forwards will maintain their peak production until 32 we can expect Victor and Alex to be productive for the next 5 or 6 years, when the rest of the team reaches their peak years.
Most pundits predicted the Sabres would still be bottom feeders this year.
Let's get Johnson, Levi and Portillo signed while being a bit more patient.
I want to spend assests to GET TO THE CUP FINALS, not waste them on the frivolity of JUST GETTING INTO THE PLAYOFFS.

EDIT: I thought I would add my favorite montra, "big players take longer to develop".
Imagine how good 6'6" 20 yo Power will be in four years.
Dahlin and Power for the next 7 or 8 years is a coaches dream.

Power is gonna only get better, once he learns a little more on angles with his stick and skating. Plus once his physical attributes catch up to his body size!! Watch Out
