I don't think the trade was as lopsided as you make it out to be.

I think everyone's trade value expectations are insanely overinflated.

Homerun for Drury. Top line RW and 3rd pair LD for a roster player that could hardly crack the line-up, a B prospect, a 1st round pick and probably a 3rd round pick based on the conditions. We still have all the kids, all the A prospects, and a 1st round pick left. That is a home run, and if Tarasenko plays anywhere near his capabilities, it could be a grand slam.

Love the trade for the Rangers. But Army got back a 1st for a pending UFA he wasn't going to re-sign. So the Blues did well too in my opinion.

But they gave up the lesser 1st instead of the better one.

Gave up their 3rd or 4th best Defensive Prospect, while keeping all their Top Prospect pieces.

Got half retention. Along with Mikkola. And dumped Blais.

Even my more realistic expectations were surpassed.

Keeping Othmann, Kravtsov, Cuylle and Robertson for next years Cap crunch...while still improving your team for this year's run...is huge.

Yeah, it's not nothing. But for the Rangers to pull off a huge move now, while still keeping their low cost future pieces for the upcoming Cap crunch, is nothing short of brilliant.

And improved it quite a bit in both critical need areas.
