Isles POV:

Terry would be a long term scoring solution on the top line with Barzal and Horvat. He is a more proven commodity than Wahlstrom and would help the Isles win right now. Bailey's cap going the other way would pay most of the raise Terry is due to receive.
ANA
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. Salo, Robin
  3. Wahlstrom, Oliver
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (NYI)

Ducks POV:

Terry is 25 and a pending RFA due a big raise. I don't think the Ducks are there quite yet. He could be part of their rebuild but Wahlstrom is 3 years younger and helps them set the clock (and cap) back a few seasons. Wahlstrom likely tore his ACL and is done for the year, but honestly that doesn't matter as ANA will want to sink to the bottom for the Bedard sweepstakes. They also have 3 defenseman probably not coming back next year (Klingberg, Shattenkirk, Kulikov) and Fowler is 31 years old. Salo could be a playable piece for them for years to come. Buys some time for Zellweger/Helleson to mature as well. ANA could keep Bailey for the year and re-flip with 50% retention for another asset (3rd round pick?)

I would absolutely love trading for Terry, but it’s hard to know Wahlstrom’s value across the league imo, I feel like he’s really underrated overall. My sense is that the 2nd would have to be a 1st at least for Anaheim to do this. Maybe they would rather have William Dufour or Matt Maggio, younger and maybe more appealing than Wahlstrom for them, even if they shouldn’t be…

How are the isles going to resign him? They don't have the money now that they signed Bo and Barzals extension is kicking in.

Very far off, would probably cost closer to 2 1st rd picks. Salo has no value, Bailey has negative value (1st rd pick attached)

Anaheim will likely get one of Bedard or Fantilli in this draft so their window can open next season. They will have a lethal top 6 and two blue chip d prospects on the way (zellwegger/Mintyukov)

I don’t even think that gets it done. Anaheim doesn’t need LD, Wahlstroms value is probably a late 1st/early 2nd rd pick but with the injury who knows. I think it would cost the isles 2024 + 2025 1st rd picks

Yeah maybe you’re right, it’s so hard to know really, wingers doesn’t usually cost two 1st-rounders though.. but I hear you, Terry is amazing.

I think Terry would go for in between Debrincat + Tkachuk went for. I also don’t believe anaheim would trade him when their top 6 could be something like this next season:

Not even in the same universe, easily declined.

This doesnt even get the Ducks on the phone. Isles dont have what we would need to actually move Terry

Have to figure the 2nd round pick is for taking on Bailey's contract. Salo has little to no value and is just a throw in. So it is Wahlstrom for Terry which is a definite no. Probably have to add in a 2024 1st at least.

I would do:
Zegras - Bedard - Terry
Henrique - McTavish - Strome

Amazing top-6 either way.

I don’t think they’ll ever move zegras from center with his elite puck skills and playmaking abilities, but it doesn’t matter because that top 6 will win a cup eventually no matter what

ducks have no reason to move terry unless they get a huge package, so it’s going to take a ton to get the deal done

While I agree the trade is far off, this false notion that Islanders will have to attach a first round pick to get rid of Bailey is hilarious... Islanders didn't even have to attach a first when they got rid of Ladds absolutely awful contract. Bailey can still play in a 3rd line role for teams that need to be over the salary cap minimum or he can be bought out for a very low cost over 2 years. Yes Bailey probably has negative value, but not even close to 1st round pick negative value

Just wanted to point out that while technically they didnt send a 1st round pick, they did send two 2nd round picks and most likely a third round pick which value wise probably equates to a late first round pick for Zona taking on Ladd's contract.

The isles gave up two 2nds to get rid of Ladd, not that far off from a 1st rd pick in terms of value. Bailey is one of the worst forwards in the league and he’s old, I don’t think any team wants him in a top 9 role unless they are fairly compensated

Yes I agree, but Ladd was much worse and his contract was basically buyout proof. Ladd had 2 full seasons left making $5.5 million and was unplayable. Bailey will have 1 season left making $5 mil where you could either buy him out and save over $3.5 million or just keep him on your 3rd line and flip him at the deadline next season retaining half his cap hit next year

I agree with you 100% but just wanted to point out to everyone else that it still was pricey to get rid off Ladd's contract.

If you wanna get galaxy brained with me, Ladd's 2x$5.5M cost a pair of 2nds and the conditional 3rd - so I would think you could easily make the case that Bailey's 1x$5M would cost a 2nd. I could almost spin it into only costing a 3rd because when Ladd was traded he had played a total of 67 professional games in the prior 3 seasons, and Bailey hasn't shown himself to be a health risk.

If you wanna get galaxy CONSPIRACY brain with me I would love for someone to figure out how Andrew Ladd was able to play 17:38 in the last week of the 2022 season and then mysteriously had an injury bad enough to miss his entire age-37 season yet also not bad enough to retire, when those just so happened to be the conditions that would get Arizona an additional pick out of that deal.

Lol I get what you’re saying but I think cap space is even more valuable now and most teams are struggling to be cap compliant. Monahan required a 1st, so should Bailey imo

In this scenario they are shedding a $5m player in Bailey. The Isles are actually fine next year cap wise. They may just not bring back Mayfield if the number is too high
