Stone injured and Quick retires

Équipe: 2022-23 Sénateurs d'Ottawa
Date de création initiale: 6 févr. 2023
Publié: 6 févr. 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Mutually agreed termination of Jonathan Quick's contract creates significant cap space (he can come back next year if he wants on a cheap deal). LAK replace Quick by trading Sean Durzi to Ottawa for Cam Talbot (50%) and a 2nd round pick. LAK replace Durzi by using Quick's cap space and picks/prospects to acquire J. Chychrun from Arizona.
Mark Stone goes on LTIR. Vegas replaces by acquiring A. DeBrincat from Ottawa for Nicolas Roy, first round pick and buried netminder Laurent Brossoit (replacing Talbot for rest of year with cap hit of $3.0m). Roy is a power forward on a good contract plus no long-term DeBrincat contract creates more cap space to pay Pinto, Sanderson, Durzi and Greig when their time comes. Return of Norris (and hopefully Formenton) next year = Ottawa would have 10 top 9 forwards with a good mix of skill, speed, scoring and power.

Quick is a UFA next year... why would they terminate his contract? Or are you thinking about Cal Peterson?

sometimes i wonder in what worl people lives. you are suggesting quick retire in the middle of the season, while in a playoff hunt, then sign with them next year? like what does quick get even in doing that...

That’s really selling low on Debrincat. And the LA trade is probably missing a prospect or a higher pick going to LA

Durzi is currently the Kings LD2 (playing his offside), the Kings have no one to replace him with.

Quick has played his entire career with the Kings and will have his number retired, why would the Kings do something so cruel to their best franchise goaltender of all-time?

They can get Cam Talbot next season, for free.

What in the world is this trade.

Roy is a good 3rd liner, the Vegas first is going to be a late one, and Brossoit doesn't have any trade value so yeah we should be getting more for DeBrincat.

If we did this trade but they added Whitecloud I would consider it.

After looking at Whitecloud’s analytics , he’s not good for the top 4.

Other than maybe Brisson, idk if there’s a deal to be made. This deal is missing 1 really good piece and it’s not the 2023 1st

Absolutely horrendous return for DeBrincat lmao. A middle six winger, a back up goalie and a late 1st? That's nothing. DeBrincat is a top line forward

Yeah, really not the way the Sens should trade DeBrincat, get a Top-4 RHD or a young Top-6 forward

We already have $11.5 million invested in goalies right now; we're not paying Sean Durzi in any package for 30 games of a rental one unless Jake Sanderson is involved, and that ain't happening.

Quick was a very good goaltender back in the cup-winning days, but he is no longer a legitimate #1 and is not worth a $5.8M cap hit. The LAK are going nowhere in this year's playoffs with their current goaltenders. It is highly unlikely they will get a new #1 with term before the playoffs, so they need someone like Varlamov from the Islanders or Talbot from Ottawa. The third goalie down with the Ontario Reign (Petersen) has a very bad contract with term remaining (with some trade protection as well). It would take a bad contract coming back to trade him. To trade for a new #1 while keeping both Quick and Petersen would be a dereliction of duty by Blake, and Petersen is untradeable. Therefore... Either GM Blake and Quick have a heart to heart and Quick retires just before the TDL so the GM can use his cap space (with the understanding that he can come back next year as a backup on a cheap deal if he wants to) ... or Blake will trade him at the TDL (he has no trade protection) and Quick can decide whether he will report to the new club. The LAK are too close to being a legitimate contender for the GM to be sentimental.

It's not about being sentimental, it's about respect and having good player relations. You weren't merely proposing that Blake trades Quick.

The only reason I could think of for Quick to agree to terminating his contract is if he's signing with a contender, but the pro-rated contract would probably be just as much as his current contract at 50% more or less.

Petersen probably isn't untradeable but likely gets moved in the offseason. LA can go acquire Vejmelka without having to get rid of Quick or Petersen. If they acquire Demko, then I'm sure Vancouver would be more than willing to take Petersen back.

Also, LA hasn't proven that they are close to being a true contender, so there is no need to make panic moves. They are trending in the right direction but that doesn't mean they are a goalie away from winning the cup much less a Cam Talbot away. They can still do the proposed trade though without getting rid of Quick.

Just to be sure that you are aware but I don't think you can find a single Sens fan who would trade Sanderson for any Kings asset.

Him and Stutzle are pretty much untouchable. Some team would have to offer one of these off-limits assets, which never happens.
