Trading for Meier is a tough pill to swallow because there is no way, no matter how you cut it, that we can resign him. We would have to trade him in the offseason for a package that is guaranteed to be less than what we paid.

I would assume the basis of any meier trade is that there is an extension in place since its something the sharks have offered, but that does make a lot of sense maybe the rangers can pay a little more and add in a cap dump to make it work

Rangers aren't giving up Laf for a rental in Timo Meier, And no they don't have the $9,000,000 per to sign him long term.

Reality is that NYR and SJ are not good trade partners- for Meier. Similar to the Horovat deal, SJ will require (and get) assets in return which are realistically too expensive for a rental. If NYR had a path to extend Meier, would be a totally different situation- but that's just not the case unless NYR could move out a big contract...and the guys with the big contracts- not only do NYR want them for the playoff run, but their movement clauses further make a deal involving any of them unlikely. Of course, this is the Rangers I'm talking about....so you can never overlook the possibility of a foolish, short sighted move!

Mitts is younger, has more points, and we’re finally starting to see him develop bc he’s been able to stay healthy for the 1st time in a while

He’s a decent young player who hasn’t met expectations of being picked on the top10 back in 2017
That’s mostly been bc he’s has nagging injury problems though

This season, he’s finally stayed healthy & has taken a nice step forward. I’m not sure if we even wanna move him
Just think fans are impatient & disappointed that he hasn’t quite hit his ceiling

Hopefully he continues his growth & gets even better for us
