IMO they should use their cap space to 3rd party retain on rentals with big contracts like Kane, Toews, Tarasenko, O'Reilly and Klingberg and add extra draft picks

I think, being 1 point out of a playoff spot, we should try to improve the team

Honestly what would your players think if they saw your GM actively going out and helping other teams make winning moves when they are just outside of the playoffs after god knows how many years of suffering.

not saying the sabres should be going all in trading everything, but they should be adding depth pieces to improve the team and get into the playoffs, kind of like what the rangers did last year. don’t need to make a home run swing, but reward the guys who have fought to bring you to this point with some reinforcements

You're welcome to help the Sharks and retain Vlasic's salary as well.

Why would they do any of that? Sick a whole bunch of useless picks and the Pegulas are out millions of dollars for nothing. Sabres will be buyers anyway

Actually those deals make a lot of sense for the Sabres, and maybe more similar ideas.
A RHD with an expiring contract for FC.
@bagelbob take the picks from those trades and use them for depth players.

The Carolina game should be imprinted on every one of how poorly a playoff series against the Canes or Bruins will end.
Why throw away future assets to JUST make the playoffs?

Jeramiah Crowe performs voodoo magic every year.
In two years the players he drafts will have more intrinsic value than the pick used to draft them.
What GM would want this years 34th OA instead of Peterka or this years 28th OA over Kulich for examples?
Spending draft or prospect capital to get into the first round and be embarassed is not a wise use of assets.
Making these trades then adding other players for FC or these picks would be a good move.
So I like the proposed TDL featured here. it make sense for the future, because that is where this will team excell, in the future.

EDIT:
This would be a nice trade:

Harris, Jordan [RFA Rights]
Hoffman, Mike
2023 4th round pick (PIT)
2023 5th round pick (CGY)

Add a vet, young d-man and some picks.
All wrapped up in one deal!

While I applaud the creativity of making proposals around what several fan and media outlets have suggested - "weaponizing their cap space to add assets", I would think they'd probably only act as a broker once rather than multiple times.

It sounds more and more like Kane's health status will end up postponing any potential trade until the offseason or even start of next season when the injury issues are resolved. With his cap hit and age already being challenges for most teams, taking on the unknowns about his current injury seems too much of a gamble for even the most risk-taking of teams IMO.

The guy who made this ACGM is a VAN fan,
NOT a Sabres fan

Thing is, we don’t really need more draft picks
Our prospect pool is already overloaded
And we still have a bunch more draft picks already

Might make 1 move like u suggest,
but a bunch of them is pretty unlikely

Don't see anything wrong here, actually might just go and get Klingberg. He actually might fit are defensive system which is basically not defense.

Well, congratulations. By my count, no fewer than 6 commenters missed the point of this ACGM entirely (apparently thinking that these were the ONLY moves you think the Sabres should make) and a seventh appears happily unaware that you can only retain on three contracts at a time.

"We don't really need more draft picks." . . . said no GM ever.

The guy who sneers at your "useless picks" has apparently forgotten that Erik Portillo was a third-round selection and doesn't have much hope for fourth-rounders Matej Pekar or Olivier Nadeau (for who he declined a fourth in another thread) never mind useless mouth and fourth-rounder Jacob Bryson.

@gretzkyghosts, as usual, has an insightful and incisive comment.

Thank you for the shout out, very much appreciated.
Actually, just reading other comments helps me a lot to learn about the value of players and needs of other teams.
Avoid food fights and long back and forth "I am right and you are wrong" comments, present a POV and move on.
Most important try not to offend another poster but rather attempt to find commen ground or agreement first.
I love it when an ACGM who follows another team as closely (Ducks) as you do, knows more about the Sabres than Sabre ACGM's.
