Why does Toronto do this?

Likewise, why does Buffalo do this? They forfeit a goal scoring winger with an average 5x5 game for a center that isn't great offensively, defensively or much better at 5x5 for the same cap hit more or less - and a position that the Sabres are already overflowing with to the point they have to play one center (Mittelstadt) on the wing and healthy scratch another center (Asplund).

No real upside here
Rather have Slafkovsky and Michkov
Rank #2 even questioned if he was past Bedard in his WJC run where he out scored Bedard and Wright for the Tournament lead with 12 goals 4 assists
Then he couldnt compete internationally in IIHF and stayed in a league where many scouts have pulled out for a variety of NHL teams and Michkov is a questionable top 3.
Then he signs a deal until 2026 and he's a questionable top 5 pick overall

IMO that #6 pick could land the second coming of Pavel Bure and while i love Suzuki's former training partner his rookie year as they shared a speed skating coach supplied by the London Knights. That said Acquiring him isnt really worth it for us in the long run and Slafkovsky/Mesar's chemistry is something i'd rather build on then destroy by seperating them.

If i was going to overpay for someone in a Savard Trade it would be to acquire an Undisputed #1 Defensman who plays RD who can help Ghule transition to the top levels. Klingberg via UFA makes sense though in the same breath and like PLD he's expressed interest in playing in MTL. But if i was trading for a guy its gotta be Erik Karlsson purely for his Power Play Production/Leadership as someone has to teach these kids to be effective like the majority of the habs in the past 30 years have not as a whole. Issue is the cost is going to be high as he's on pace to top his Norris Trophy winning season before he got Career Threatening Injury and its the 1st time SJS or Karlsson for that matter has been in a position to have teams interested in trading for his 11.5m x4 year contract he has after this year.

Too many young guys turning Pro to get Marner.
Farrell is a top 10 Favorite in about the same position Caufield was before the NCAA playoffs.
If he leads his line which is top 5 in the NCAA in Production behind Western Michigan(McAllister's Team) Michigan State(Fantilli's Team), Minnesota (Cooley's Team), Harvard(Farrels team) and Boston University (Browns team), then he's looking at being a Hobey Baker Finalist and Winner if he can enter the NCAA playoffs emerging as a leader in the league like Caufield did .

Why's all this matter?
Ask MSL, Nicholas or any of the other coaches what they think and Farrell
They love him as he's a PP QB who elevates those around him .
