Isles don't do this. They have Vary now and most likely next year knowing Lou, he'll bring him back for a 1-2 yr deal around 2.5 (5M total)

If Varlamov is willing to sign 2x$2.5M in Montreal (one of the teams rumored to be on his NTC), I would think he'd be fine doing the same extension on the Island, negating the need for the Isles to spend a 4th on Jake Allen.

Even if Varly is adamant about getting a last chance to be a #1 somewhere, I'd grab a guy like Kevin Lankinen or Anthony Stolarz in UFA as a Sorokin backup before giving up an asset for Allen.

I like the idea of the Edmundson trade with the OIlers, though - Petrov might be a diamond in the rough, Puljujarvi is an interesting reclamation project, and the picks aren't outrageous. I'd still think Edmonton would ask for full retention on it, though, and I'd give it to them for this package.

Fair points all around. I guess NYI is kind of a filler team, Allen could go anywhere. I still like Varlamov though if Montembeault continues to get better. Varly is a good goalie! But wouldn't surprise me if he went back to the Island. Thanks for the feedback.

Agreed. I think EDM will want full retention and in reality (bc obviously this post isn't realistic, just fantasy) I think Montreal would eat salary if they're compensated fairly. Just no cap space in this post bc I really wanted Pasta haha.
I think it's a far deal. I also wouldn't be surprised if Edmundson goes for more though, he's a very marginal defenceman but he's very similar to Chiarot so we'll see.

I love Petrov. Think he's a great prospect.

Avs can’t afford to pay guys like Evans $1.7M to play in 4th line roles. And Pitlick sucks, you can get better players on waivers for less term and less cap.
