One of these players is currently on one of the top producing lines in hockey and producing over a point per game with a chance to score 40 this year.

Edit: also is a big vibes guy and a really good locker room presence.

Not much imo. The dude is a certified loser. How can you be a $9M player, almost 1000 career GP, and still ZERO playoff games.

He looks like a guy completely okay with losing and a team shouldn't want that.

Who exactly is pushing the offense on that top line for a non-playoff team?

So he's worth a Boeser downgrade to save 3M [to pay an actual netminder] trade if NMC was not an issue?

In 2020 Zach Bogosian had never played a playoff game he was drafted #3 OA in 2008 guess he doesn't care about winning ohh got to the playoffs boom names on the Cup

Sabres are very well in the playoff hunt so not sure what you're trying to get at there, but they are all good at driving the offense on that top line.

He's entirely worth the contract difference especially since Boeser is going to be due an overpaid contract of his own soon. Sabres are pretty set with their goalie situation currently. Is it great? No, but it definitely isn't worth paying assets over.

First off, interesting proposition...however...

Who says, "no?"

Why Jeff Skinner, of course. He's exactly where he wants to be and he's producing.

Just to clarify, Skinner is averaging about 31goals/82 games over his career if you take out the Ralph Krueger years where the coach was hating on his game. Also, in his 12 seasons prior to this one, Skinner has:

--a 40-goal season
--four 30-goal seasons
--three 20-goal seasons

During the 2012-13 NHL lockout he had 18 goals in 42 games (a 35 goal pace) and this year he has 20 goals in 47 games (another 35 goal pace)

Is $9M per high? Yeah, but not that much.

So send Skinner to the Leafs then where they can make the playoffs and get knocked out in the 1st rd every year!!

I don't know what Jeffs value is in a trade.

But we aren't trading him a.) When we'd fall below the cap floor if we did. b.) He is playing so well.

We won't get fair value for him in a trade due to his contract and we have 20 million in cap space, so why would we be motivated to trade him?

We traded for a retired goalie to hit the cap floor. Why do we need to save 3 million and trade for a goalie when we have 3 on the roster and 20 million in cap space?

Well yeah, but only to a certain extent. If you're a $9M guy, you HAVE to be a difference maker at least ONCE to make the playoffs. After 900 games, there are no more excuses. Look at Kaprizov, Price, Panarin, Josi, etc. All huge contributors put their team over the top.

It's completely different. Bogosian, a depth player on a league min. deal, is not the same as someone who's paid to be the difference maker on his team and just cannot be that.

He's a LW.

Kaprizov, Stone, Panarin, Benn were all huge reasons (and wingers) why their team made it at some point. I'm not saying Skinner should carry his teams every year, but as a $9M player, he should have done it at the very least once.

Feels weird to point to: a guy who's never won a playoff series, a guy whose only playoff wins since signing his megadeal came in the bubble season; a guy whose team got knocked out of the playoffs once they stopped facing 3rd string goalies; and a guy whose team hasn't escaped the first round since 2017-18 as examples of $9M+ players who put their teams "over the top".

There are only a handful of players to win a series with a $10M contract. Thats not the point. I know Price was the only one before last season and then others joined him (Bobrovsky, Panarin, McDavid). But the players I mentioned have at least made the playoffs once in... you know... in less than 900 career games.

U could make the same argument with all the Leafs high priced players not being able to get them past the 1st round

Also, your point is a tangent to the original post & has no bearing on the actual topic- move your goalposts elsewhere
I’m sure there’s some nutty Habs & VAN fans posters on here looking to argue over completely dumb crap- have fun

No, because Marner, Matthews and Tavares are huuuge reasons why the Leafs make the playoffs every year. It's not the same thing all, man. What happens after is another debate.

And yes, it's on the actual topic. My point being Skinner doesn't have much value since he is paid to be a difference-maker and hasn't been one in almost 1000 games.
