Anderson has played 43... and has just 8 goals and 6 assists to show for it.

He's got to be the most overrated player in the league.

never forget that the playoff run that Habs fans love to point to as value for Josh Anderson had him put up 5-1-6 in 22 GP - the exact same stat line that Matt Martin put up for the Islanders in the playoffs the year before. Oh, and Anderson had two 2-goal games in that run - meaning that in his other 20 games, he had a single goal and single assist, total.

I see this comment a lot and it is actually quite ridiculous, lets look at his CF, OzS% and DzS%

Anderson - CF 45.3 not great but then look at OzS 46.2% and DzS 53.8%

The Canes do not currently have a top 6 forward who starts more in the defensive zone then they do in the offensive zone. In fact all 4 top 6 wingers the Canes have start more than 60% of the time in the offensive zone and on a much better team. If Josh was almost exclusively deployed in the offensive zone his stats would be much higher and there wouldn't even be a debate on the value of his contract. To be putting up 20+ goals a year on one of the worst offensive teams in the league while also starting more than 50% of the time in your own zone is quite a feat in itself.

. None of what you just said justifies that Anderson is good at defense

That's 43 more than Skinner, 6 more than Mcdavid. 43 is not nothing.

I like interacting with you, but I think you overvalue Buffalo too much for a team that hasn't reached the playoffs in over a decade. Buffalo cant afford to be as selective as you want them to be. Thats not an insult, just something I noticed.

So he's played on a few teams that made the playoffs. Are you suggesting he's better than McDavid??

Did I? But you acted like 43 is nothing. It's more than the average active NHL player. Anyways I'm not even a habs fan or an Anderson fan, so I'm not even involved in this debate I just think he is over-hated. At 3.5M I would like him on the Leafs.

Perspective: Anderson scores at a higher rate at even strength than Horvat.
Not saying they are comparable players, but if Boeser is getting (maybe) $9M, perhaps Anderson's production at $5.5M isn't actually that bad and people are underrating him mainly because he isn't producing a point per game with his low PP and assist totals. He's a more effective player at carrying the puck with speed than at standing around and passing.
That ability to carry the puck down the ice and be a consistent contributor at even strength may not always be quantifiable, but are still important aspects to have in a lineup.

Since he is a Hab (2020-21 to now), only 48 players have scored at a better rate at even-strength (leaving out PP because even-strength scoring is even more important and the Habs have the 31st PP in that span). It's still impressive. He's ahead of guys like Draisaitl, B. Tkachuk, Laine, Guentzel, Kreider and just behind MacKinnon, Barkov, DeBrincat, etc. It's not bad company at all. Add to that his ability to skate as fast as anyone, to throw is body around and even drop the gloves when needed... It checks a lot of boxes. What Anderson doesn't do (playmaking, backchecking), playoff teams have in their other players. I don't know why people are so adamant about calling him a cap dump that takes a 1st to offload.

If Montreal wants quality for Anderson, the Canes will bow out quickly. We are looking for a Trocheck esque trade.

His defense is a concern but the Canes own the puck so, his defensive issues would be a little more masked
The appeals for the Canes are his physical side and he is a shoot first guy (we dont have one).

Honestly with our depth, Anderson can play a bunch of PP time and we can put him one the 1st line on O zone / neutral zones. We could throw in Jarvis for defensive draws.

Could throw him in the trade too 👀

It actually does, look at some of the other more defensive wingers around the league who get more defensive zone starts than offensive. They tend to have a CF that hovers around 50% while mostly on good defensive teams, for instance Killorn is at 49.5% CF while having almost the exact zone start percentages as Anderson (43.3% OzS and 56.7% DzS) on a much better defensive team. If Anderson was on the Lightening his CF would raise exponentially even with his mostly DzS.

that just shows that Montreal spends a bunch of time in the own zone cuz they arent good. It doesnt mean players on Carolina who start 60% in the O zone are bad at D. We just start a bunch in the O zone.

I wasn't saying the Canes players were bad at D, I was saying that Anderson's deployment on the Habs is mostly defensive and since our D is comprised mostly of rookies, Matheson and Wideman types of players that is going to significantly pull down the forwards stats and make them look worse defensively than they actually are. Again it is evident in Josh's career CF and zone starts, which almost mirror Killorn's. Anderson - career CF 50.1%, OzS 51.5%, DzS 48.5% Killorn - CF 54.3%, OzS 55.2%, DzS 44.8%. Again Killorn is still better defensively but not by a hell of a lot and gets slightly more offensive zone starts. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying Josh is elite defensively, I am just saying this narrative of him sucking defensively is blown way out of proportion.

The last time they were both in the playoffs, Armia outperformed Anderson. You should trade a 1st +for Armia.

It would be the eazy-e-est no of all time. Skinner is the one who unlocked Thompsons talent. Their chemistry is incredible. Buffalo has the cap to deal with it for a long time. And Boeser? He is not worth anything. He'll probably get to 20 goals and 50 points this season but has a terrible contract and is awful defensively. Ask any Buffalo fan.

Boeser hasn't sucked defensively his entiry career, and that contract isn't terrible
