Even though no one should ever give up any significant assets for any goalie and Demko has had a bad year someone would definitely give up at least a first for Demko. Lets not forget that teams were supposedly willing to give up firsts this past summer for Gibson -- who has been on a run of mediocre to bad play that is like 4 years longer than Demko's. Buffalo and LAK would be obvious destinations, maybe SEA and DET are possible fits as well.
Boeser will absolutely not get a first, even retained. In the past 3 or so years its clear that NHL teams have completely devalued the high paid, middle tier of wingers that Boeser falls into. Bjorkstrand -- a better player coming off of a much stronger year -- got a 3rd and a 4th. Burakovsky a couple years ago with a much better contract situation got a 2nd and a 3rd. Connor Brown once again with a much better contract got a 2nd. Rakell with a much better contract got a 2nd and an ok goalie prospect. A 64 point pace certainly isn't bad, but teams want to spend the 4.5-7m that they used to spend on guys like Boeser on either centers or 2-3 guys who can in total put up a similar total and help out in other ways. Would NJD give up a first to spend 4.5m on Boeser, or would they instead keep it and spend the money on say Conor Sheary, Scott Mayfield, and a vet min extra defenseman in FA?
With Boeser especially, VAN is by far best off either swapping him for another distressed asset (Hoffman? Fabbri? Mantha?) or trying to rehabilitate his value for next years deadline when his contract becomes a bit more manageable.
