It's one thing if a respected media member reports that one of their trusted sources told them something that gives credibility to rumors but too often fans jump on board even the slightest of name associations ("team x and player y") that sometimes get mentioned and start feeding theories until word of mouth on social media starts acting like it's imminent.
Pierre LeBrun mentions that the Sabres called about Meier and the Buffalo media confirms that a call was made. That's all yet the Buffalo fans start believing the Sabres are all in on acquiring Meier.
In the case of Demko, Elliotte Friedman only offered his own thoughts about Demko, based only on the precedent of past rebuilding teams typically dumping their stars for assets, and said that common sense looking at teams around the NHL with a need for a goalie and who have cap space included the Sabres. He didn't report the Canucks were rumored to want to trade Demko - in fact, he went out of his way to dismiss his own theory and acknowledged the Canucks have no interest in trading him. Likewise, despite what fans and media in Buffalo think, their GM has repeatedly expressed confidence in their 3 current goalies and the faith they have in Levi becoming an NHL goalie.
In short, I don't see the trade happening because neither side is likely interested.
