You'd have to make that first the Montreal unprotected first and I'm still not sure San Jose accepts.

I can't see San Jose accepting a long term cap dump in return without being heavily compensated to do so.

First off, what did David pagnotta report? This makes no sense on so many levels. First off, not nearly enough for San Jose. Then you’ve got the habs issues. Why is one of the worst teams in the league giving up futures? Why is a team trying to tank improving?

Then there’s the QO to contend with. If I’m Meier, and I get traded to a bad team in a high tax market, I’m saying, “give me my QO please, nothing to talk about.”

Depends on the first. If it was like 6th or 7th I would do this.

Otherwise no, because the other two are cap dumps

Ah yes a top 7 pick in the deepest draft since 2003. Its Meier, not Kucherov

What planet are you on? Meier isn’t getting a top ten pick in this draft.

Josh Anderson has a 0.248 xGF/60 which would make him 23rd in the league for forwards. And hes scoring at a 23 goal pace on this god awful Habs team. Hughes has already rejected a 1st round pick for him so obviously he isnt a cap dump

Then you arent getting Meier? Make me an offer that can compete with a top prospect plus a mid first then.

You arent getting him for 15th overall and a bunch of cap back

Well, I don’t want Meier. I’m a bruins fan so I don’t think he’s any sort of a fit. That said, we’ve seen trades like this. They don’t include a top 10 pick. I’ve said in this thread that this trade certainly doesn’t get the job done, but what you’re asking for is insanity.

Debrincat just got 7 + 39 +, and that is the deal every insider is comparing Meier to.

Its really not insanity.

Fla 1st so 12th-15th
Harris, young d man like Romanov was (He got traded for 13th overall)
Anderson (20 goal scoring powerforward)

habs probably have to add a Kidney or Mesar type prospect but not much more

No interest then. Harris and Anderson may have value to someone else, but they dont fit the sharks timeline and they arent going to do the flipping work for you.

Just present a deal of a young 18-20 year old with elite potential and a first

This isnt NHL 23 where teams with elite talent they just drafted gets traded. Meier is very good. Hes not a top 5 player in his position good

Well actually, the guy is 14th in overall war in the league. On pace for the most shots in the league, and 45 goals.

I would say hes pretty damn close if not a top 5 winger.

I think the return is interesting. I don't see the sharks wanting Anderson considering he's doesn't fit our rebuild timeline, considering his age. We're more likely interested in FLA's pick + 2x B prospects or 1xA prospect.

I just reject the premise here that the Sharks would *have* to take back cap, much less in the form of the remaining 4x$5.5M of Josh Anderson - any other contender looking to acquire him will just need the $3M retention or can send back an expiring/short-term bad contract. This is just such an easy pass for the Sharks if you're insisting Anderson has to be included - why would a team trying to rebuild trade a 26 year old RFA for a 28 year old with significant term?

This isn't NHL23 where teams take players like Anderson when they don't need them in a rebuild scenario that is occurring if they are trading away their best forward. You gotta consider what other teams want in why they are doing the trade

He is well on a 40+ goal scoring pace btw

SJ wants picks and quality prospects/young nhl players for Meier. They can take cap back but not in a way that diminishes the package much for Meier.
