sharks decline

maybe Eklund won't be as good as Bratt, but we need to keep our youth and prospects and we likely won't be competing next year so that pick could be valuable

So you guys wouldnt trade Nemec for Meier, but we should trade you 5th overall and Eklund for Bratt?

Let me confirm that I love Pasternak. But can he match his value on the ice without Bergeron and Marchand? That's one special line for years. Yeah he could get more money from another team rather than the Bruins, but for "happiness" on the ice should he?

Wouldn't the Sharks be better off, signing a UFA for Bratt $$$$, and keeping their first and Eklund?

The chances that San Jose trades Eklund is as likely as New Jersey trading Holtz. Neither will happen.

Honestly, I think there is little chance he gets to UFA. Likely stays in Boston but plays a little brinksmanship to get his $$.

Well, in fairness it is a 2024 1st lol. But I don't think either side makes that deal. Sharks aren't exactly in a good financial position to extend Bratt with Pickles and Karlsson on the books. Would put them right back to where they were pre-Burns deal.

But..... that Vancouver deal is interesting. Walsh could a great fit on the RD for the Canucks, scrappy game with offense. Foote still has an unrealized ceiling, which at worst may not be far off of what Boeser is.

That one has some teeth to it.

Which is why I omitted the third piece.
And not salty at all.

Devils are playoff team, with developing club’s mindset. Still looking at future.

I think Fitzgerald would trade Holtz for Meier if he can sign him to something reasonable, although I don't think he would be offering the 2023 1st as well.

Maybe something like Holtz+B-prospect+Blackwood for Meier+Reimer or Holtz+B-prospect+a 3rd/4th for Meier

I think it’s other way around. I think the NJ 2023 1st is likely to be dealt (if not at deadline, would be at draft). Holtz very unlikely to be moved.

For Meier, we have plenty of other prospects to include with a 1st rounder. Just won’t be Hughes, Nemec or Holtz.

I certainly think Fitzgerald will want to hold onto Holtz for sure, but that may be where he has to compromise, the main thing would be that he doesn't give up both Holtz and the 1st considering they have other guys they can trade. You are right that NJ does have plenty of other prospects, I wonder which ones would interest Grier, Daws would be one but I don't think Fitzgerald would want to give him either.

Edit: Just saw that the other goalie prospect, Schmid, is swiss. The New Jersey Swissknives.

I'm still rooting for a Holtz/Eklund reunion in SJ lol.

Maybe he trades Holtz and/or Nemec…they are certainly big chips to move. But I have seen nothing that suggests he would.

1. They chose to keep him on NHL roster (despite having a couple of years of waivers left). If they were looking to move him, he would be on showcase in AHL lighting things up. They have kept him as part-timer with main club to development him.

2. The coaching is a factor. Ruff is coaching for another contract, playing to win now, less interest in development. Brunette, up until the other day and still maybe afterwards, is our heading candidate to take Ruff’s job next year. And he likes Holtz. Works him into practice, into PP, and with video coach. They have invested into Holtz.

3. Top-25 prospects are very, very rarely traded. Young goal scorers are rarely traded. Prospects with 2+ years of ELC are rarely moved. He is all three.

Everything suggests Holtz will not be traded. Very little suggests he will be.

Yeah, that's a fair analysis overall. Although, in terms of showcasing, I think what he can do in the AHL matters less than proving that he can be a regular NHLer now since his dominance at the AHL level is known already. Overall, it does seem that they want to know what they have in Holtz now, so I think it's either he performs or becomes trade bait, but I'm guessing they will give him more time than 2 months.

Okay, what can NJ offer for Meier & Eklund? grin
