Yeah, I don't disagree that it gives them a goalie, and I do feel like it's reasonably fair for both teams, but it leaves the Isles with little to no insurance in net.

Surprised to see that Schneider's numbers in the AHL this year, strictly from the GAA/SV% side (which obviously doesn't tell the whole story) are actually pretty solid. But yeah, not a chance am I allowing that to be my insurance policy if I'm the Isles.

This would be the kind of move the Isles should make once Horvat is extended. If Sorokin gets injured, we’d need the back up to really step up, and Varlamov could do that. And if we miss the playoffs this year with Horvat still unsigned, we are in for a rough offseason.

But as far as the deal itself goes, I’m a fan. We just need to have our house in order first.

I cannot see why the Devils would have any appetite for this.
Vanecek is probably performing like a top 15 goalie for this season, he is their bonafide starter for the playoffs.
The Devils also have 3 reasonable options for backup in Blackwood, Daws and Schmid.
There's really no need to get Varlamov in for the Devils, and especially not at the cost of a top 6 wing, Tatar has been ridiculously good this year.
