Kirill is a good player…but gosh. That is a huge overpay.

A bit of an overpay, but I'll go against the grain here a bit, I think you at least seriously consider this if you're NJ. Kaprizov is a top-10 player in the league, probably a top-3 winger in the league at that. The Devils would still have an incredibly bright future at D and C if they did this, and Kaprizov-Hughes-literally doesn't matter would probably be the best line in the entire league.

If I were NJ, if I was able to take out Holtz I'd call that a deal

From a pure talent and overall skillset standpoint, yes. The difference between Kaprizov and Bratt is say comparable to a Matt Barzal and Jack Hughes. Bratt is an elite player, no doubt. But Kaprizov is a franchise level player, who is just in a higher tier than Bratt.

That said, from a pure value standpoint. It's too much. NJ is decidedly overpaying here. By a rather large margin, in point of fact.

But let's be honest. It would probably take just such an overpay like this to even get Minnesota to even potentially consider it in the first place. Moving out a legitimate franchise level player of Kaprizov's caliber is extremely risky, and with all due respect to the pieces being moved here none of them have close to that same potential. And the only one here that even remotely does is Nemec, but that is far from certain.
