Still not even close and also irrelevant. Larkin is not available. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Larkin would need to slap Yzerman's momma in the face and insult her lasagna for things to fall apart... this "contention" is 100% a negotiation tactic both ways. Larkin's agent is Brisson and Yzerman is a tough negotiator as well. When Yzerman was in Tampa, Stamkos went all the way to within 3 days of UFA, but they still got a deal done. Yzerman is not going to show his hand and Larkin (rightfully so) wants the most money he can get WITH the Wings. If push comes to shove and Yzerman presents a final offer that risks him actually going to UFA, Larkin will sign it before he walks. I am not concerned in the slightest about a deal being worked out.

Wings have ample room to re-sign Larkin. The Canucks were cash strapped. they are not comparable situations.

Minten is a center prospect, But he's at best a 3C and we already have an overabundance of 3Cs.

in this case "JaredOfSubway" is right. If DET tries to keep Larkin fine, but just because you have attachment to the player doesn't mean he's worth more. His comparable in terms of rental trade value is the Horvat deal, maybe a little more if things work out right for detroit

I'm shocked that Leaf fans have yet to offer a 2nd and Pierre Engvall for Larkin with a large 3 paragraph explanation as to why its a fair deal for both sides.

Beauvillier has next to no value, he was only moved out to make Horvat's cap work out. Raty was drafted late in the 2nd round. People need to forget that this kid is no blue chip prospect Plus the pick needs to be 13th and later for Vancouver to receive. Sorry it's not that great of a deal outside of the 1st. If this was the best Allvin/Rutherford could get. This pretty much tells me that most teams weren't willing to pay their price. Because honestly it isn't that great of an offer.

Incorrect.
- Vancouver is a mess, Detroit is on the back nine of a rebuild.
- Vancouver is cap strapped, Detroit has a bunch of cap space.
- Horvat wanted out, Larkin wants to stay.
- Horvat was traded from Western Conference to Eastern conference, this trade has Larkin staying in the Atlantic Division.
- Horvat was a captain, Larkin is the team’s 4th captain since the 80s.

Not saying that the difference between the two players is big by any means, but context is important.

Larkin is worth more than that and anyone who says otherwise is trolling. However, you guys need to take the foot off the gas on your expectations. All the top insiders have the top 2 guys available this deadline as Meier and Horvat. Larkin is a good player for sure but hes not getting more than either of those guys and Horvat set the market. I would say a 2023 first, a top prospect and a roster player is all you can expect. Hell Beauvillier was a cap dump, not even a good roster player.

i like Larkin but he isnt 9+ mil a year. if this would happen it would have to be Liligren, Kneis and 23 and 24 1st. especially to division rival

It's a kinda silly argument that the Leafs (in this case) would have to pay a premium just because the Wings/Leafs are in the same division. Makes no difference as the Leafs can't afford to sign Larkin this summer, so it's not like the Wings are going see him as the Leaf for seven years.
If Larkin is traded, just take the best offer. Certainly the Leafs wouldn't offer that or no team would
A first, two seconds, and starting NHL Dman with years of control. C';mon.

I agree for the most part but Horvat was traded out of conference and you'd have to think there would be a steep increase in price to trade him in division. I'm still not convinced he leaves Detroit. Yes he turned sown 8x8 yesterday after Horvat was traded knowing when the Wing's offered him that deal would be far more telling. With his NTC it's his decision where he goes and If he leaves Detroit it's most likely for Columbus. Since Columbus isn't a playoff team either the final chance to trade him isn't the TDL it's the final day of the season.

why does the division thing matter in this case DET isn't making playoffs and TOR can't afford to give Larkin an extension. Not that I think this will happen just from a purely hypothetical perspective

He hasn't signed because he's looking for 9mil a season. Detroit offered 8mil. They're likely to settle in the middle. I'm really not worried.

No team will give Detroit extra for that sure. But here's the reason why Detroit won't accept less...they don't have to. The Canucks could not afford to re-sign Horvat and everybody knew it. It was take the best offer available or let him walk for nothing. Detroit can easily afford to re-sign Larkin at the number he wants. Yzerman is just negotiating to get a slightly more team friendly deal. As he should. That's his job. Detroit is not desperate to trade Larkin and they will get him signed if negotiations come down to the wire where as that would not have been possible with Horvat. Hence if a team wants to pry Larkin out of Detroit, the deal will be heavily favoured for the Wings and Steve Y will get absolute maximum value out of parting with his captain.

That's a pretty big contract for a guy who's best season is 70 points. I am not sure I'd give him that much money.
