The 1st would need to be conditional on some performance metric from Demko. At least 10gp with a SV% above 905% or something. His poor performance and injury is too big of a risk to give up a 1st without some protection in case he can't get healthy.

Sure. The Kings had a similar condition when they traded Jack Campbell to Toronto in 2020. He had to get 6 wins for the condition to apply. The season was canceled early due to COVID so he never did reach the mark.

Edit: I’m realizing now that this condition is impossible because it’s a 2023 1st, so he would have to get all those wins before the end of the season.

From Vancouver's perspective, it would probably be better for them to do a 2024 2nd that increases to a 2024 1st based off some performance conditions next season.

One fluke injury to Demko after the trade deadline and there goes Vancouver's 1st round pick. They could make the condition like 41 starts and 905 SV% next season and then there would be a lot more leeway to allow for injuries or other absences. Not to mention, the Kings could just ride Copley after the trade deadline this season (like Toronto did with Andersen after the Campbell trade) so that they wouldn't meet the condition.
