So if I'm following correctly, LA moves Petersen's contract, a first and a second and gets Demko? Sounds pretty good

Not sure why the Blues would want to add Salary and players at this time.

Would be much better off just selling ROR for futures.

Boeser's contract complicates things down the road when Buchnevich will need a raise.

So SJ gives up Timo and gets a 32 year old UFA who is putting up 3rd line numbers? Come on, this is silly.

San Jose moves Timo for a 1st, 2nd and Tatar? Add Luke Hughes or Byfield and sure

The Kings aren't giving up their 1st round pick this year in exchange for a goaltender who is injured and was playing poorly this season before he went down. If their pick is contingent on some Demko performance metric, then maybe the Kings would do it, but in that case it would likely need to be the 2024 1st to give Demko time to fulfill the condition.

Blues decline. If we are trading ROR it will be for picks and prospects. Not another roster player

Historically, a 1st + 2nd/3rd has been the price for an equivalent salaried goalie swap with an imbalance.

This is valid. I thought the Blues want a bit more depth (also Boeser is part retained), but if not completely understandable.

Meier is on an expiring contract and so far hasn't shown signs of resigning- that significantly drops his value. Tatar can replace him for this season, which improves their lottery odds and brings a veteran in. Historically, the price for a high-skill winger rental (Meier) has been a mid-tier roster replacement, a first, and a second. This is in line with that.

I'm curious to know which team has given up a 1st round pick and more for a goaltender in the salary cap era and ended up happy with the trade. I can think of exactly one example ever and it involved a decent amount of salary retention.

I think your a little confused, Meier is rfa so he’s a shark whether he wants to be or not. That doesn’t change his value at all. Grier has also allowed teams to talk extension so that only increases his value.

So the Canucks are giving up

Thatcher Demko
Brock Boeser, and retaining 2.65 for 3 seasons

for

A 2nd round pick
An atrocious goaltender on 3x$5
An expiring 31 year old C

What benefit is there to the Canucks to do this? This is awful...

And for some reason you're giving NJ a 1st back? So they're essentially trading Haula, Tatar, and a 2nd for Meier lmao?

Canucks are beyond uninterested.

Timo is an RFA. That is not the same as an expiring contract. His signing rights are still reserved. Regardless that doesn't effect his value very much. You're one of the few who doesn't understand this. Get on board.

Including Tatar in a Meier deal kind defeats the purpose in the Devils acquiring Meier.
Tatar has been stupid good this year and I don't see why the Sharks would be interested in acquiring a 32 year old pending UFA.
Rather just replace Tatar with a prospect like Mukhammadulin or Casey.

Yes that would explain the confusion lol
