Maybe not. When Isles don't look they are making the playoffs, they try to trade BO for at least what they paid for him. Gee, I don't like the trade by the Isles.

U wanted him for Kasper, Rasmussen & a 2023 1st? Cuz that’s what it essentially cost NYI.

those are some *generous* comps. feels like the Red Wings version of that package would be Sebrango/Fabbri/conditional 1st. I think Raty has a ton of upside but Kasper is the 8OA pick from last year's draft - his upside is gonna be higher, to me.

Oh, I forgot about Fabbri, that’s a good comparison. Sebrango certainly is not, though. Raty is a top 50 NHL prospect. So, maybe Wallinder instead of Kasper?

I’m just happy we’re not trading any young assets for anybody. Wings need to sell and sell.

Raty and Kasper aren't comparable to me. Kasper is a much better prospect. I'd say our closest is maybe Mazur or if Ras satisfies thier need for a center it's more like Wallinder who's more a comparable to Raty in potential and draft position.

It's hard to find an exact equivalent but I think it falls in between the 2 comparisons above. With Kasper and Raty I think they are close but we will just have to see. Rasmussen has 7 points in his last 7 games and has really turned it on lately and it's not like last season where his points seemed like right place right time but now he's is making plays and creating offense. That OT winner against Montreal that was all Rasmussen and in Arizona that no look though the crease to Perron. The 1st rd picks are close right now but this will probably push the Islanders into the playoffs. Raty and the 1st don't factor in yet so it's like trading Beauvillier for Horvat. I think NYI got the best of this deal does it stay that way I guess we will just have to see.

All of that aside the actual return for Horvat wasn't anywhere near what the Vancouver fans ACGMs were expecting from Detroit. That last day they were on par with the Petry to Detroit offers by some Montreal fans. A 2023 1st (unprotected) and 2nd, Edvinsson and Cossa. I also think choosing to sign Miller to a big extension and trading Horvat is going to end up biting them in the ass.

I think Rasmussen's upside is quite a bit higher than Beauvillier. I think Kasper and Raty are close, wasn't Raty in the top 5 or 10 during the season before his draft?

Their first big misstep was trading for JT Miller to begin with when they did. I was shocked by that and thought it to be a huge mistake but, they didn’t stop there. Safe to say, nothing went well for that organization since and now, they’ve gotta tear it down, in my opinion.

Very, very poorly ran since that initial JT Miller trade. Now, with the extension and the way he’s played this year, an immovable contract.

I’d say Mazur, Fabbri & 1st rounder would be comparable however, I still wouldn’t do it. There is literally no sense in trading someone like Mazur who could be Bertuzzi 2.0 and a 1st round pick that possibly, albeit very minimally, become Conor Bedard or Leo Carlsson. Never mind winning a top 2 pick; we’re just not in a position to be buyers. Lou blessed us.

Yeah, he was and we drafted Shai Buium over him and the Nick Leddy deal afforded NYI to take Raty with our pick.

I think it came down to VAN wanting a C prospect in return and Detroit having limited options in Kasper (too high of quality to give up) or Niederbach (too low of value to be desirable to VAN).

I'm happy we didn't sign Horvat because of (A) the acquisition cost, (B) the likely high AAV on a guy that's only hit 60 points once, and (C) the length of term expected on a 28yo.

Raty was a before season top 10prospect but dropped to the middle 2nd round after a bad draft year. Kasper is a way better prospect. Maybe you could use Mazur instead or if Ras fills the need for a center then a guy like Wallinder is more comparable to Raty in potential and draft position. Plus beau was there to balance the Islanders cap so who knows how that effects horvats price if Vancouver doesn't need to take back money and retain on horvat to help the Islanders.

The pick is protected so you can't miss out on Bedard or Fantilli it's impossible so don't let that be a draw back. I get it's a big price but Mazur might be bertuzzish and Fabbri with 2 2 bad knees keeps you from adding our biggest need. I just don't agree. Plus Vancouver retained money on horvat and took beau to balance the cap. We don't need any cap help so we may have even got him for less if Vancouver is taking far less money back.

Good points. It’s interesting that NYI was able to add that protection to the pick. I only found out last night exactly what the protection was at “top 12”.
