Description
It is sad. CBJ have very bad luck in the draft lottery.
You are now entering the TWILIGHT ZONE.
Fantilli would be a nice consolation prize to Bedard.
The Jackets really have nothing to sell at the deadline now that Nyquist is out indefinitely.
Nobody will even want Korpisalo.
And they really need to sign Gavrikov to an extension for stability in the defensive corp.
Fantilli impresses and becomes #1C right out of the gate (pipe dream)
Roslovic continues to rack up assists, and finally starts scoring the puck more (longshot)
Sillinger escapes his sophmore slump, AND figures out how to take a faceoff (Jenner is his LW to take faceoffs just in case)
Voracek hangs the blades up on his own accord due to age and cobwebs in the ole melon, so no buyout or LTIR is necessary
Blankenburg climbs the corporate ladder and 2 Michigan boys play top pairing together.

No more wingers until they figure out who is going to fill the 1C / 2C role (effectively) long-term.
If no Bedard or Fantilli, they probably go with Leo Carlsson, his size and compete level are what the Jackets really are looking for.

I'm gonna be really sad if we have to watch another year of Roslovic getting top 6 minutes with 3rd line offensive results and 4th line defense.

I don't see Jake retiring and passing up $8.25mil when he can sit on LTIR and get paid and then retire after the season. It's not hitting the cap number either way, so he's going to collect his money.

Fantilli looks like he's going to be a very solid 1C. I'm still praying for Bedard though. I haven't seen Carlsson a ton, but I really like Smith and could see him working up to 3OA over Carlsson.

I get the inclination to keep Gavrikov but they really should trade him, especially considering how much they could extract from a contending team for him relative to the player he is, which is an okay middle pair defenseman.

I also understand wanting "stability" in the form of a guy who can eat minutes and shelter some of the young guys, but you can get that in free agency or via an offseason trade without potentially costing yourself a first round pick. Besides, long term the jackets probably want Mateychuck and Jircek taking those top four spots and they already have a lot of middle-bottom pair guys signed or RFA, so locking yourself into a 4-5yr contract with another guy who is already in his late 20s might not be the best play long term.

I think the jackets have drafted really well with the picks they have, despite not being able to pick super high, I'd continue to trust that process and hope they get more than two swings in the first 64 picks this year.

Just play Jenner at center, he's fine there.
