-Chicago passes. I'd argue that the Coyotes are actually getting almost as much value for retaining 25% of Toews' deal here as Chicago is - Harkins turns 26 before the start of next year and only has that season of team control left; moreover, putting up a 13-14-27 line in 154 career NHL games doesn't scream "big upside" to me; it more sounds like "warm body." Vesalainen had 5 points in 70 NHL GP before going back to Sweden; he's already 23 so the likelihood that there's a lot of value to unlock there is low. Plus, you've kicked the 3rd to 2024, so all another team would have to do is offer up an actual mid-tier prospect succeeding in North America and a 2023 3rd and they'd easily beat this deal.
-Meanwhile, the Coyotes just offer up a retention slot they're probably not using and get a 23 year old goalie putting up solid numbers on a bad U-Wisconsin team and a 23 year old offensive RHD with 11 goals in 37 AHL GP this season. These guys were late round draft picks but I'd argue that they're probably more intriguing prospects than the guys the Blackhawks are getting for Toews.
-If I was the Panthers GM, I'm passing on this - Stenlund and Stanley are depth bodies at this point, and while Chibrikov is an interesting prospect, he's still only 19 and a few years away from coming to North America, I'd assume. Duclair scored 30 goals last year and only has a $3M AAV; for a team under a cap crunch like the Panthers, I can't imagine them giving up that type of value when they're locked into enough pricey veteran contracts that a full rebuild is out of the question currently. At the very worst, they give Duclair the rest of this season and the first 2/3 of next year to bounce back from his Achilles injury and trade him at next year's deadline as a rental and get back at least a similarly valued package.
