It's not even about value, Detroit just isn't moving Larkin. They will have a new deal soon enough.

Larkin would need to slap Yzerman's momma in the face and insult her lasagna for things to fall apart... this "contention" is 100% a negotiation tactic both ways. Larkin's agent is Brisson and Yzerman is a tough negotiator as well. When Yzerman was in Tampa, Stamkos went all the way to within 3 days of UFA, but they still got a deal done. Yzerman is not going to show his hand and Larkin (rightfully so) wants the most money he can get WITH the Wings. If push comes to shove and Yzerman presents a final offer that risks him actually going to UFA, Larkin will sign it before he walks. I am not concerned in the slightest about a deal being worked out.

Why would they sign him to a 9.5mx6?

If they are paying that much in assets then they should be giving him an 8 year deal, especially if he really is a great fit like you said.

Outside of Niemela and the 2 1st round picks, Yeah it's bad. First off there is no way Dubas is giving Larkin $9,500,000 when he still needs to re-sign both Matthews and Nylander. plus it starts with Matthew Knies your top prospect at the very least for a starter. Larkin isn't getting traded a deal will get done Yzerman already said that he has until june 30th to get a deal done that's still 5 months away.

Zero chance of Yzerman resigning Bunting, So he's a no go.

Fraser Minten is another 3C LHS that we already have an over abundance of plus have far more coming up in our pipeline. So pass again.

Detroit can really use a RHD prospect so Neimela works there plus 2 1st round picks in the 25-32 range isn't bad.

Yzerman wouldn't even re-sign Bunting. Minten is another 3C LHS we've in spades Niemela is fine because we need to bolster our RD pipeline back up and the 2 1st. Larkin with an extension would get a far better package than this.
