Description
Opening offers for the guys I'd want.

Would be a W deadline if they'd get away with keeping Knies and Minten, but obviously I think the Meier trade might need one of them.

And yes, I am aware Robertson is injured. He won't be next year.

And after the Leafs lose in the first round this year you're left with no picks, no prospects and no Meier.

I don't think they lose in the 1st round if they do those moves

Personally I view the objective of these trades to make sure the Leafs don't lose in the first round again, but I understand others might view it differently.

Which is why I wrote "opening offers" as the first sentence in the description. I'm completely aware that San Jose could balk at the offer and suggest an alternative.

This is how negotiations work.

If this is your opening offer to the sharks Dubas' number is being blocked

I'd love for you to elaborate on why this is such an offensive offer in your mind. "Torontos garbage" isn't a great discussion point and I'd rather not talk in circles, thanks. Gonna need more words.

Every other trade for Meier includes a top prospect, a first and some other stuff. This trade includes a meh prospect, a late first and a cap dump. If toronto is serious about Meier they have to include Knies, and even then offers from NYR, Devils, Canes all fit what the sharks need the most. Sharks have already drafted plenty of guys that can fill bottom 6 rolls, and if they do end up trading meier they will be looking to fill the top 6 in their lineup. Toronto fans seem to think that they can get a Dollar with 4 dimes

Niemelä's pretty good but I'd be completely fine with swapping Robertson for Knies.

I don't spend all day on here but I rarely see offers from the Rangers/Canes and the Devils are split on if they actually want Meier or not. I think the biggest pull are the Sabres which Toronto obviously can't beat for quality.

If the Leafs can't get Meier done they'd probably look at other players. I can understand them getting outbid.

The offer has a 23 1st, and just like everyone elses, it will be a late 1st. It has a third, and it has two prospects, including their top RHD prospect. Its fine to demand Knies over Robertson, but to call this a **** offer makes us wonder what you are smoking.

Kerfoot is the eternal "needed to make the cap work, you have him for 20 games, deal with it"

I don't think you understand how good Niemela is. He's a very solid prospect. And Robertson is a young forward with a pretty high ceiling. Time is starting to run out for him, and injuries are a bit troubling, but he could very well still develop to be a top 6 forward.

It's not the return I'd hope for, but it's far from a garbage return.

And yes, I am aware Robertson is injured. He won't be next year.

But he was the year before and the year before that. why is next year going to be different exactly from an injury prone small guy

These kind of trades sell the farm hoping for one year of success.
