Well one of two things will happen. The Athletic reported O’Reilly is in extension discussions with St.Louis which would take him off the table. So unless Army gets something he really wants he won’t offer him up.

Which brings me to the main point of this post. This won’t get it done. We’re talking A level Prospect with a lower pick or a 1st Round pick with a Sub-B level Prospect realistically. So if you don’t have a 2023 1st which you don’t. Army most likely asks (and I know Toronto refuses which is why I don’t think ROR is going to Toronto) for Knies.

My other thought is why would you want O’Reilly in the first place you’ve got Nylander Matthews Tavares and Kampf already. I doubt O’Reilly will be useful on the wing. A cheaper option in Barbashev is most likely the way Toronto goes. Especially when you are paying 7.5M for a 3C

Buffalo isn't going to help Toronto, and if a team did, it'll cost more than a 5th

And the Pegulas are definitely not signing any more checks for ROR. LOL.

Honestly, I doubt it costs much more. The real salary that would be needed for this on RORs contract is very low. He’s paid mostly in signing bonuses at the beginning of the season. Don’t quote me on this, but I believe all but 1m of it in real dollars is paid on July 1 (6.5m) meaning the retention value is very little.

In terms of the proposal, the pick for ROR will be at minimum a first unless the prospect coming back is extremely high value, which neither of those listed are.

Yeah, this ROR offer is pure fantasy. Woll is of no use, Steeves is meh and a 24 2nd to open with is double silliness.

While I agree that somebody would probably take the late round pick for what will likely be a few hundred thousand, it won't be buffalo. Can't imagine pegula agreeing to that.

Yeah can't see Buffalo doing that. They have actually built more Tim Hortons around here, could make it a dangerous situation. Buffalo declines

If Kekalainen happens to like SDA, that probably works for the Jackets. Personally, tho, I'm ambivalent and would want another pick instead.

That’s fine, I was mainly commenting on value in a vacuum and not a teams disdain in trading with another.

The main point is realistically that retention on ROR isn’t near as harsh as the cap hit would suggest.

I’m not sure if someone would use a retention slot for a 5th, but adding an asset for a couple hundred thousand and a retention slot (assuming they aren’t using it) shouldn’t really cost a whole lot
