If Montreal wants PLD they'll just wait until he's UFA and sign him then.

Sign and trades are an NBA thing, not an NHL thing and if Dubois is signed to a long term extension, this won't get him.

There's also probably no chance True North would want anything to do with Mailloux.

The 1st and Dach are a good start, no need for Winnipeg to add anything.

I'm sure behind the scenes conversations are ongoing with other teams as we debate, besides the Habs regarding PLD if this is the case. Reasonable offers will be tendered by any number of teams and supported by their fan base. Yes, timeframe being current and towards this years draft period, next year "too late" or as the saying goes "you snooze u loose".

Matthew Tkachuk was a sign and trade. The Dubois situation in Winnipeg is very similar. If Dubois is willing to go to more than one team like Tkachuk was Winnipeg could wind up getting a decent haul for him too but you won't get that from Montreal if it's the only place he wants to go.

Tkachuk, Calgary and Florida provided the blueprint on how to do it. You can expect more players and teams will try to do something similar. Dubois and Meier are the prime candidates to try it after this season is over.

Which is what I said. Very rare. From what we know now, the only thing PLD had said is that he wants to get to UFA, presumably to maximize earnings, he hasn't said he has any preferred destination.

So, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Montreal can certainly wait for the sure thing signing. Just like Gaudreau was a sure thing for Jersey, Tkachuk was a sure thing for St. Louis and Trouba was a guarantee to go to Detroit. It more than likely works just as well for Montreal.

That's not true, a few years ago Dubois said he wanted to play for Montreal.

Gaudreau was just stringing Treliving and the Flames along. Everyone knew it except Treliving. It was surprising he went to Colorado rather than Philly or New Jersey but that just proves he was lying all along about wanting to go home. Especially since Columbus only offered him a little more than NJ did and a lot less than Calgary did.

Tkachuk, virtually all those rumors were coming out of St Louis. The Dubois rumors aren't coming from Montreal they're coming from everywhere. That doesn't mean he'll wind up there but they're based on more than just a few homer writer's dreams and wishes.

That's not true. All the rumours originated in Montreal when Dubois' agent said that Dubois wouldn't mind playing for Montreal someday when a Montreal reporter asked him directly if PLD would like to play for Montreal someday.

Well find out this summer, one way or the other.

Yea it’s mainly the French media as well. They’re pushing very hard for PLD and have been since he was in CLB. In my opinion it’s overblown. Also, they’re the last team that’s going to trade for him so these speculations are pretty dumb. Why trade assets for a free player in 2024
