I have not understood this complaining from parts of the fan base that have said who cares you have to trade your prospects and 1st and it's dumb that the Leafs will not do it. I think they are fine with doing it, but will not do it for rentals. That has always made sense.

Not really. They won't trade their top prospect for a rental. Meier will have value to trade in the offseason because he is RFA.

Meier is the type of rental you give up your top prospects for. Unlike guys like foligno he would actually greatly improve the team. They should go all out for meier then get a solid defense upgrade and finally go all in for a change. This one foot in one foot out move they've been doing hasn't got them anywhere despite how hilarious it is to the rest of the league.

Nah, just means that the Leafs are likely not going to land him if NJ or Buffalo are willing to make strong offers. If there is actually any interest from the Leafs, it is just Dubas doing his due diligence and there's a 99.99% chance that nothing comes out of it as per usual.

Saying Knies is untouchable could just be a tactic to try to inflate his value, so that they give up less, and that will probably just lead to no trade.

Going all in on this season makes no sense, when they haven't even won a round. That would just be a desperation move to try and save Dubas' job which 1) might not work anyways and 2) he probably doesn't have the green light to do so or he knows he's safe and still managing for the now and the future or 3) he's managing for the now and future even if it costs him his job.

The only other "reason" for doing so is to try and convince Matthews' to stay but again it might make no difference even if they do make a deep run or even win.

The Foligno thing was unfortunate since he was injured, but that was probably Dubas trying something different anyways, so not sure why he would do the same with Meier.
