I doubt that gets Henrique. They're more likely to be looking for a 1st (with some retention) and JTC is still a pretty important piece for the Avs for a run.

Yup, 50% retention with a 1st and some sort of mid-prospect seems perfect for both teams.

Not to mention the no retention won't work for Colorado next year with Mackinnons new deal

That’s a no go, the 2023 is off the table and so is Ben meyers, he’s settling in nicely as a depth center for them, he has value next season in that role

Why would COL add 2 prospects to get a a more expensive guy who is producing at the exact same rate as Compher? Bednar loves Compher just look at his TOI and production this year, Compher isn’t going anywhere.

I'm not against the idea of Rico but I don't think JTC is going anywhere this season. The idea is to add and moving JTC out in order to bring Rico in is a lateral move. To me, getting Rico is about hedging for next season (while also adding to the team this season), giving Newhook more time to develop and plugging a hole with JTC and ERod likely moving on. You give the Ducks the 2024 1st for 50% retention (for next season; the retention this season is next to nothing at the TDL) and throw in a prospect like Beaucage to sweeten the pot. Ducks clear some cap space, get younger, pick up a 1st and a guy that could develop into a decent secondary scoring option.

In my formulations, we get the 2024 first plus a good prospect and you get the later of our two 2023 thirds.

Ehhh. I don’t think COL is moving any firsts. Newhook has really started to take off, not even playing with top 6 guys, Compher and Erod are there and when Landeskog returns that 8 of 9 top 9 spots with LOC, Cogs, Nieto, Helm if he is healthy and Meyers to fill out the last 4 spots. I think the Nieto Merkley move kind of puts them in a position where they don’t NEED to do anything, and let’s be honest they don’t have a ton of non roster assets to use.

You remember what it was like before you guys hired Bednar and drafted Makar -- your team stinks so badly that you just hope the cavalry will come riding to the rescue. I wouldn't dream of betting that Henrique gets a first (no matter what goes back), but I can wish and pray.

Bednar was the coach in the season that everything went wrong, and literally every player on the team had literally the worst season of their entire playing career. COL got lucky lost the lottery and got Makar. ANA has some sweet young assets and of the teams in the lottery area I really hope they get Bedard.
