Description
>>> I talked to three sources regarding this over the last two days....

The Devils and Islanders are in a bidding war of sorts for San Jose's Timo Meier.

According to my sources, the Devils have gotten further along with quite an impressive offer....Sources tell me the Devils offer involves Holtz, Blackwood and a First Round Pick. The Devils would likely get James Reimer in the deal as well...

Who knows if this is legit, as Ek has a spotty rep, but let’s plug it in and see what happens

maybe I don’t understand sarcasm but is you description legit?

edit - nvm I’m an idiot. I was thinking Eklund as in William Eklund and I was confused why it was titled that but he wasn’t part of trade. my fault.

I don’t really disagree with you. Just figured it would be fun to make, since there was some cap gymnastics involved

Mercer or no deal if I'm SJ. If NJD doesn't budge, keep Meier or trade him to another team for a better offer.

Bottom line: SJ doesn't need quantity. They need a quality young NHL-ready player coming back for Meier. Not to make the wording more confusing, but they need a known quantity, and Mercer fits the bill perfectly -- especially if Reimer's included in the deal too, although his inclusion doesn't effect it that much as he's only worth a 2nd/3rd.

I very highly doubt Mercer is on the table for Timo Meier. If he was, there likely wouldn’t be much else besides filler included just given the value of cap right now and the fact that he’s a Top 6 forward on an ELC.

As a fellow Sharks fan, I would love to have Mercer join the team through this team. Yet, as someone that realizes the realistic fact that no matter what happens, the Sharks lose this trade. There's no way Mercer gets included, unless Grier pulls off some magic. Holtz + 2023 1st + Shakir Mukhamadullin is the perfect balance of quality and quantity for this trade. Not sure about Blackwood with his knee injury...

On another note, I can't see the sharks giving away picks unless we're picking up more quality assets.

while I agree with this in general, the Devils have been linked heavily to Meier but just about everyone.

Well considering they want to re-sign Kuzmenko and he's been producing at the same level as Panarin and Kaprizov did in their first year, and he loves Petey and Vancouver, I'd say at least a first round pick + Shakir Mukhamadullin.

As for Schenn, the Canucks rejected a trade for a second round pick last season for Schenn so I would say that his value would be more or less around what Kulak got. Which is a roster player, a second round pick, and a 7th round pick.

Holtz + 1st rounder + Blackwood is a no brainer for Timo Meier. That's the most realistic trade I've ever seen. Keep you assets because Kuzmenko is by far the best Russian forward behind Kaprizov and Panarin to come from the KHL in the past few years.

Personally Kuzmenko feels like a bit of an enigma to me. He’s a pretty u known commodity at the NHL level still, at age 26, and a rental… but he’s performing and performing well, all while carrying an obscene cap hit for his production. No clue what that actually does to his trade value.
Plus the inner fun stuff happening in Vancouver (especially with the rumblings about EP being unhappy) doesn’t make me positive that Kuzmenko does actually resign there

It’s hard to gauge what the league values defensemen at, after Ben a Chiarot somehow netted a 1st rounder.I don’t value Schenn much, seeing a negative GAR, but there’s probably a team out there (which could be the Devils) who would pay that. He’s definitely not been as positive of a contributed as Kulak last year though, but again GMs do weird things
