Murray got a 3rd for someone to take him, LA already has petersen and quick for 11mil. Hes almost untradeable unless he can put it together and stay healthy.

And thats probably under what ARZ is offered elsewhere. (Im not sure Robertson carries a great deal of value: injuries, non-production, size).

LA's Achilles heal is goaltending and Murray has played better than anyone they have tried this season and has the pedigree of 2 cup rings. Murray has been very good or at least above average for most of his career. Getting shelled in Ottawa for 2 seasons isn't a good representation of his value.

The only way LA even considers this is it Toronto retains 50% or takes back Petersen. Even then, they're probably not looking to take on a questionable goaltender, both in performance and health.

Demko, Vejmelka and Reimer are better options. Murray is not an option they should go for.

Yeah I guess LA would rather keep their stellar goaltending they have right now.

Riemer and Vejmelka are nothing special. Both are backups and Demko is likely not being traded.b

They're only 2 points out of first despite their "poor" goaltending.

The bigger issue the Kings have is their team defense, not their goalies. When their defense plays well, their goaltending looks fine. When they don't their goaltending gets exposed. Shoring up the defense is a higher priority than the goaltending.

Adding a mediocre goaltender with a high price tag for several more years without moving out the one they already have is not the solution and will only cause more problems than it solves.

Yes, there's a picture of Matt Murray next to "mediocre" in the dictionary.

I wonder how many mediocre goalies have 2 cup rings?

The Kings already have a goalie with 2 Cup rings under contract. If previous Cups are the only prerequisite to be considered good, then they're already covered.

Quick is almost 10 years older than Murray. That's why he's no longer good. He's just old. Murray had some injury issues and played on a really bad team in Ottawa. Behind a good team he's been good this year. He's a good goalie, Ottawa messed up and had to move him and we are happy how it turned out. I doubt he gets moved even if Samsonov continues his great play and takes over at the #1. Keep them as a tandem until someone who needs a good goalie comes knocking.

All goaltenders live or die behind the teams they play for. Unfortunately, the Kings have proven to be a poor defensive team this year. Quick's play didn't fall off a cliff in the last 7 months. They tried to transition to an offense-first system and the pendulum swung too far, and too often the Kings goaltenders were left out to dry.

Over the past 2 seasons, Toronto has emerged as a solid defensive team. Campbell looked good for the Leafs for a while before the wheels fell off, and now that he's playing behind a suspect defense in Edmonton, he looks terrible. Murray played behind a poor defensive team in Ottawa, and he was terrible. Put him behind a good defensive team in Toronto, and he looks halfway decent. Unfortunately, the Kings defense this season more closely resembles Ottawa's than it does Toronto's.

The Kings are likely going to trade for a rental goaltender like Cam Talbot at the trade deadline and use him as a backup to Quick in the playoffs. This summer, they'll attempt to solidify the defensive core through trades and free agency, and they'll take another look at Petersen in training camp. Quick will probably re-up for another one-year deal. If they're not confident that the two of them can handle the netminding duties for the Kings, then they'll explore bringing on a new goaltender.

Committing themselves to another $5M goaltender with a recent history of injury and performance issues is a terrible idea.

It is though. That's $10M+ in goaltending the Kings will have committed to next season. As I said above, if Toronto will retain 50% on Murray or take back Petersen, then maybe there's a deal to be made. Short of that, the Kings aren't interested.

Petersen makes $5M for the next two years. They can buy it out after the 2023-24 season which will save money, but his cap hit actually increases next year if they buy it out this summer.

Unless they can offload Petersen, they don't have room for a $4.7M goaltender. The plan was to re-sign Quick to a one-year deal at $1.5-2M and let him tandem with Petersen next year. If Petersen's not up to it, they can bring back Copley on a $1Mish deal to tandem with Quick. Either way, it's significantly cheaper than Murray's $4.7M.

Going back to my earlier point, I don't think Murray is a better option than Quick, and Quick will be significantly less expensive than Murray.
