First of all, that doesn't get Meier. Second of all, that would be the low end of a Meier extension, will likely be closer to 8.5-9.

Third of all, why are you buying out Wheeler? Just retain whatever the buyout would cost and trade him. He's having a great year and a team like Buffalo with cap space would love to have him for a year. They'd get value back that way.

Winnipeg doesn’t have the luxury of trading for a guy and putting 8x on him. Nobody going to check enough boxes and have winnipeg on the top of their list for contract extension. So that basically stalls it at this point. Stone or toews a few years back possibly, but still doubt that. Jets draft, develop and possibly reward, then repeat.

Thanks for the feedback. The Jets have forward prospects like McGroarty, Lucius and Lambert and D prospects like Heinola and Stanley that could be considered to add to the Meier offer. I had heard they were looking for 2 firsts. $8.25M might be optimistic but my rosters going forward could afford up to $9M. If someone was willing to pay Wheels $6+M for the final year of his contract, I'm sure the Jets would give him his option.

Would take two 1sts just to dump Schmidt so there's nothing there for Meier.
