Kings don't have a need to dump Petersen, and they certainly aren't using a 1st to do so regardless of what's coming back. He's on a "buyout friendly" contract, in that once they get through next year his buyout has minimal effect on the cap for them. In addition, their players that will require raises is offset by the fact that Quick (and other contracts) come off the book at the end of the year. So, the Kings are going to give Petersen a chance to right the ship, as it were, well before they do something drastic like this. Even if that means playing him in the AHL all of next year, as well.
