The last thing a rebuilding team like Montreal needs is to take on more salary long term for a veteran. Either Campbell bounces back long term and hurts their draft position or doesn't and becomes and awful contract. Neither outcome is worth it for Montreal.

If you ever have the time the end point of that saga that largely fell off the map publicly it is pretty wild.

By the time the investigation ended there seemed to more evidence that the whole thing was either an elaborate catfish effort by a uknown source (that they couldnt link at all to the hoffmans) or the Karlsson being potentially behind the whole thing. The case died in court but was pretty interesting to look back at. Regardless they do hate each other now atleast
