I agree I don't think it's a good idea to even include Hronek in a Horvat trade which I've seen a lot today. Are chances of Horvat signing with Detroit in the offseason are a lot better than us winning the draft lottery. But I don't see that happening either.
I agree.
I just think we need to be aggressive this deadline by parlaying our pending UFA’s into 2023 picks and prospects. Anything other than that to me is a huge misstep.
If we can get some extra draft capital and get worse to finish off the year with the 8th worst record for example, let’s say we don’t win the lottery which is the likely result, at least we have some ammo to move up to move up from say, #8 to #3 or #4 and take Leo Carlsson who I think is going to be a superstar in this league.
It’s not often there are trades in the top 5 of a NHL draft like it is in the NFL but, why not prepare ourselves for it anyways? Or maybe we win the lottery but not for the #1 pick but, the 2nd pick or 3rd.
We’re 3.5 points in the standings away from having the 6th best odds of winning the lottery outright. The difference between the 10th doubles by dropping to the 6th.
I know there is a ton of buzz around Bedard with the #1 pick but, even if that doesn’t happen, we can’t forget we have 3 separate shots at picking in the top 3 of the draft. I would be thrilled to land the #2 or #3 pick and take Leo Carlsson I see a lot of Evgeni Malkin in his game. Not a bad consolation prize.
You want a game changer in the lineup, there he is, and you didn’t have to trade 3-4 top assets to get him and pay him $9m a year either (yet).
