First off Detroit is getting closer to a deal with Larkin, And there's no way you're getting Larkin without your 2023 1st being in play. And Larkin at 50% starts with one of Jarvis/Morrow or no go.

I wouldn’t say they are getting closer, considering there have been rumbles that Larkin and the Wings are far apart on a deal. Always have to take the rumors with a grain of salt, but it’s not exactly looking like they are close.

That being said, yes it would start with the 2023 first, but as good as Yzerman is, he won’t be prying Jarvis or Morrow out of Carolina.

The latest offer was $8,500,000 from Detroit and Larkins camp wants $9,500,000 which they will never get from Detroit or on the open market Sorry but $1,000,000 technically isn't far apart. Don't take Dave Pagnotta as gospel as the guy is the least credible of all the 4th period insiders. Deals to Hertl, Hintz and Jack Hughes hurt any chance of Larkin getting $9,500,000+

The return for Larkin is underwhelming. A low 1st in 24 and a couple b-level prospect isn't getting Larkin. The prospect coming back needs to be NHL ready next season, top half of roster.

With where Detroit is currently at in their rebuild they really cant afford to trade their best player and captain for a couple of unproven prospects and a couple of picks in a draft that's over a year away. Now those prospects are VERY GOOD prospects. But Suzuki is in his 3rd season with the Wolves and it's not like he is setting the AHL on fire. Yzerman likes big defensemen and Heimosalmi is 5'11" I really don't Yzerman trading Larkin for a package that has a 5'11" defenseman as its centerpiece. Now I really like Heimosalmi but he has never played North American Hockey and a lot of Europeans struggle to acclimate style of play and the length of the season. Detroit is taking on way too much risk in this trade.

But I honestly don't think it really matters Larkin will resign and stay in Detroit for at least the next 7 or 8 seasons.

I agree if you want a player like Larkin you are going to have to give up something you don't want to loose and not just a couple of prospects and a couple of picks.
