Trade Proposal with Big Prospects

Description
Some fun discussion with some fellow Kings fans, in terms of needs for the organization. Ottawa needs RD with talent, Kings need LD with talent. I wonder what a swap would look like, who needs to add, etc.

I'm assuming this gets into a "what do you value in a player" type conversation, but I figured I'd see what folks here have to say.

Clarke is NHL-ready, and would be playing if the Kings weren't so deep on the right side. And since LA likes to slow-develop their prospects, the right side of their defense has become a shell game of waiver eligibility.

Same with the Kings and Clarke. It was more of just a fun thought experiment.

There's a whole standard deviation of player in between Clarke and sanderson

In terms of type of player, maybe. I don't think in terms of value, though. Again, that's my personal opinion. But both are extremely highly rated draft picks that are on a path to become their team's #1D. One is one year ahead of the other because he was drafted a year earlier. And there's nothing to suggest Clarke is behind his development when compared to where Sanderson was last year. In actuality, Clarke pushed for a spot on the Kings defense before Sanderson did Ottawa's with both getting their first NHL games this year. So I don't really get where the massive value spike is between the two, outside of fan bias.

I mean, in the description I indicated that I wanted this to be a discussion as opposed to just a 1-for-1 trade, but let's go with what you said.

"the Goat." is a heck of a title to give to a kid who has 2 goals in 40+ games and is anchoring a team in the bottom third of the league. I'm not trying to take away from Sanderson at all. I really think he'll be a #1 defenseman on a very good team in time, as Ottawa grows its young talent.

Clarke does have some to prove, but like I said his time in the NHL has shown he's NHL ready. The Kings just aren't "Clarke-ready" for lack of a better term.

OTT needs Rd because of Sanderson and Chabot, so trading Sanderson means they don't have as much of a need for RD.

OTT also says no because Sanderson is more "NHL Ready" to play the top 4 minutes, they don't have the time to wait for Clarke.

I don't doubt that Clarke is gonna be sick, but there's just not much incentive for the Sens to do it. Even if you ignore how strongly Sanderson has been playing and how important of a piece he is to the team, etc, it just doesn't make much sense roster-wise. The Sens only need a top 4 RD because they have the top 4 LDs locked in with Chabot and Sandy. If you swap Sanderson and Clarke, then the Sens are still missing a top 4 defenceman, just on the other side.

He was able to play earlier because he played Juniors not college. You don't get 9 games when you are a college player

Sure.

Don't take your anger out on this guy, at least read the comments before making stupid assumptions. Very clearly states multiple time he didn't intend it to be a one for one and was curious how the Kings could add to make a fair deal

All in all, pretty easily not a fit cause it leaves the Sens with a hole on LD and RD cause Sandy would be gone and Clarke may not be ready to play more than 3rd pair/pp2. If I were the Kings, I'd move Clarke before he turns into Merkly

I don't have anger.

I have the truth.

The truth is that I wasn't making assumptions and I was directly quoting what he said in the description.

He did not say in the description, "I didn't intend for it to be a one for one".

He did not say in the description, "How could the Kings add to make it a fair deal".

There is no reason for me to go look for what he said in the comments when he can just say it in the description.

This is an ACGM, not a crossword puzzle.

Please keep up.
