Replace the 2023 first with a 2023 third and Knies with Abruzee in the TO trade and Toronto accepts.

Avs pass. Backlund is okay but not worth a 1st, let alone a 1st plus one of the Avs only decent prospects left. He's too old, is overpaid and the Avs can't afford that contract moving forward even with the retention. The only scenario in which the Avs even consider trading their 2023 1st is for a young, proven, cost-controlled (read: wildly underpaid) forward that can play center.

Sutter won't play the young guys, might like Knies just because of his size but he'll just swap out Pelletier and Phillips for Zohorna and Klapka.

I feel the same way though, we're basically stuck with mediocrity for the next three seasons unless this group finds it, we make some massive trades or we bring in a new coach.

I don't hate Darryl, he's a freaking champion, but it feels like he's lost the room and he won't use our prospects.

Tanev would be great next to Rielly IMO, but even as a Flames fan I think that's a bit overpriced, Knies or the 1st not both. Maybe a bit of a sweetner because he is really good. We don't win without him.
