I think we (detroit) are at the point where we’d rather just keep Maatta for the rest of the year and take a swing at keeping him, if it’s just for a third. The guy is a rock defensively on a team that is really trying to improve in that regard.

I don't think adding a pick (2nd or 3rd indicated here) for one of those pieces would necessarily be an overpay by any means. Depending on the actual piece, MTL might actually be overpaying there.

But yes, Eddy half retained + COL 2nd round pick vs Durzi (I don't know if it's an overpayment if Durzi turns out a top 4 RHD for many years)

Maatta is currently on pace for a 30 point season, He's brought stability to our blueline and has really helped Hronek out big time. A 3rd rounder isn't going to cut it. It's either a late 2nd or we just keep him and resign him.
