Don't think Mantha is someone I'd be very excited to pay a 1st and 2nd to get. He's not much of a scorer and has a pretty consistent injury history. If we're going to pay out the 1st I'd probably be looking further west to Vancouver and asking about players like Boeser or Garland.

You say injury prone then say Boeser not to mention Mr.5’10 Connor Garland

You are not getting more than a 2nd for 2.85M (maybe a late pick). MTL would do that IF :
1-They can’t find any suitors for Drouin and Dadonov (and it would need to be for a 3rd round pick, anything under that isn’t worth retaining).
In a perfect world, MTL trade Edmundson & Monahan half retained + something like the trade above.
Next year you will only have one retention slot but that retention slot will be use on Mike Hoffman (we won’t have anyone to trade with retention)

Or you just think you will get more then that, retention isn’t some huge asset for teams no one pays 1sts for retention idc who you are give me an example if you want yo claim it. As for anyone with Cap Space like Montreal,Arizona,Buffalo they are all teams where this has the most minor of effects on their cap anyway

Teams always pay for money, Toronto paid a 1st to get rid of 6 million on their cap, this is no different

If Mantha is moved, I could see Washington considering this, but as of now they don't have any space for Garland next year.

5 years ago?, Vegas paid nothing to get 9 mil & 7 mil off their cap in the last 2 years as well as Columbus who paid a 3rd to get rid of 5.25 for multiple years. again what logic are you using?, retention isn’t that much & never has been. Stop with this “Leafs Tax”

Every situation you just mentioned was for useful players, not dead cap space. Once again, if you want a team to just take on dead cap space you have to pay for it, no teams just gonna do you a favor.

Domi 3 mil (6th), Fleury 3.5 (2nd), Gio 3.375 mil (3rd), Giroux 4.1375 mil (3rd) All multiple millions of retention close to the final amount of Mantha’s deal, You get a 2nd that’s called doing business not doing a favour. The Habs,Sabres,Coyotes won't be competing for the next 2 years most likely & 2.85 is a very minor number on the cap for a team with young guns, Also the 2.85 is nothing compared to the multi-year buyouts people have accepted taking recently i guarantee a 2nd would make most teams take on that 2.85 & anything else is evidence to the contrary
