I have a feeling kane will be out for the rest of the year with an injury. But I’d love to acquire toews and if Kane was healthy I’d definitely pay this price.

-Chicago deal feels like quantity over quality. Chibrikov, Heinola, & the 1st/2nd gets you really close; I think Appleton would be negative value for Chicago as a 27 year old bottom-6er with term, Lundmark isn't really anything more than depth at this point in his career, and AJF is a waiver claim that Chicago could've had if they really wanted him. If you need to move Appleton to make the cap work, I think you just add another 3rd/4th instead of piling up mediocre contracts for the Hawks.

-Just give Arizona a 4th or 5th for retention. Gawanke is a depth guy who probably tops out as a 6th/7th D; Vesalainen isn't even playing in NA anymore and didn't do enough while he was here to make his rights super attractive.

-Islanders pass. If they're going to move Mayfield, I assume they target the Josh Manson package as a return (a 2nd and a prospect from a team's top 5). Stanley isn't anything to write home about, Moe is a college guy who probably just waits til this summer and chooses where he signs, and a 5th isn't really anything to get excited about.

Kane is back already. Value isn't quite there in this trade. 1 of lucius or mcgroarty + 23' first + heinola or chibrikov + Appletons cap dump would be the asking price for acquiring both of Chicago's franchise players within the division.

With the cap that high for both it kinda takes away from the return lundmark is progressing well as a 2nd round pick heinola a 1st that could boom if given the chance chibrikov was a projected first with a good use of speed and skill with leadership qualities as well as a unprotected first so if we get bounced even better. Ajf was a waiver claim but he has proved this year to be a great speedy energy bottom 6 guy are partly a reason why our pk is top 5 and most improved from last year. Appleton is there to make the cap work but compared to other contracts around his value is more net 0 or slightly positive depending on his return play. Maybe add wagner who popped off at the world juniors or like a 3rd but it's quite close as is

Chiarot and Savard went for a 1st - mayfield is better than both and has a better contract

Yeah and this is a better draft class less 1st moving around unless it's a deep impact player and a bottom pair dman doesn't really do that

Shows you how much I’ve been paying attention to CHI hahaha….

Last I heard on 32 thoughts there was a chance kane would have surgery or something. But again I’d love to acquire kane and toews, and I agree that the price likely is what you’ve mentioned or close to it. I’m not sure the jets have any interest in moving McGroarty or Lucius so the deal is likely dead there. I still think toews is the perfect acquisition for the jets.

Mayfield is seen as a 2nd pair D, he averages over 20 min of ice time and was a big part of two long playoff runs. He’s also big and a RHD which increases his value.

He gets 21 minutes a night on one of the better defensive teams in the league - how is that a "bottom pair dman"? Factor in that you can retain him down to $725K, cheaper than any other rental defenseman out there, and that just adds to his value.

And even if you think he doesn't get a 1st in this year's draft, he certainly gets a better package back than an AHL depth guy like Logan Stanley and a 3rd. Brett Kulak got more than that playing 15 minutes a night on an awful Canadiens team last year, so if you want him, you're going to have to offer commensurate value.

Nobody's expected to watch hawks game this season lol

The hawks would be stupid to move both toews and Kane in the same trade anyways. I hate the "he cheered for them growing up so he must be dying to go there" narrative but this one would be a good fit for toews. Something like toews retained for either a 1st or a 2nd with a chance at becoming a 1st and a chibrikov type prospect would be ideal. It all depends on how many options toews gives the hawks though.

The hawks won't trade toews and Kane together and lessen the return. Especially within the division. And not for this quantity over quality package. It'd have to be closer to what I proposed but it still won't happen

I’d 100% do a toews deal for a prospect and a 2nd that can turn into a first.

Kane has played the last two games for the Hawks and had a goal and 2 helpers. He missed 3 games, and one of those was just as a precaution.

Sorry.. my bad. I should have read down to the bottom.

No worries haha, I was lost myself. I had last heard that he was maybe going to get surgery for a nagging injury but didn’t watch any hawks games recently or would’ve seen he’s back.

Kane has been dealing with a hip impingement for the last 2 to 3 years. It's a nagging injury that flared up when he took a hard hit to that hip, but does not make the impingement worse only causes more discomfort. He may have surgery to repair it, it's outpatient surgery, but it doesn't stop him from playing hockey...it's simply a choice whether to throw the towel in on the season and get it done or to wait until the offseason or wait until his career is over. Hip impingements are extremely common in the overall population, but like a casual weekend runner, it creates general soreness and discomfort. I have one and decided not to repair it (obviously not a professional athlete), my wife a marathon runner had hers repaired but it's elective ultimately based on nagging discomfort.

Ahhhh okay this makes total sense. I think Friedman said there was a bit of conversation happening there in terms of whether to do it now and sit out and sign a 1 year deal or not do it.

Will be interesting to see what happens, I’d imagine he probably just waits to have it done.

What irks me is when the podcasters or writers are ignorant medically and don't frame this up correctly. There are a couple articles that I read that are just flat out wrong, acting like this is a season ending injury; the world we live in of the media creating click-bait storylines.

I had just heard Friedman chatting about it potentially ending his season if he chose to do it.
