Quoting: Nathaniel
Bunting - Matthews - Nylander
Garland - Tavares - Marner
Heinen / Trenin / Barbashev- Holmberg - Jarnkrok
Aston Reese - Kampf - Engvall

Rielly - Brodie
Gavrikov - Liljegren
Sandin / Giordano - Timmins

Ya, we can fill in whoever we like best.

For me, the best Leaf lineup would look like:

Bunting Matthews Nylander
X Tavares Marner
X X Jarnkrok
Engvall Kampf X

Rielly X
Sandin Brodie
Giordano Liljgren

And they make up out 3rd line

I love Engvall

And I love Engvall and Kampf, they can dominate there minutes and if they could ever just get a winger that could score, cough cough Ryan Donato, cough cough Knies. That would be an excellent 4th fukcin line.

Our 3rd line needs to be completely rebuild

Feel the same.

Made a team adressing that and it was good

Buting-Matthews-Nylander
Henrique-Tavares-Marner
Parise-Acciari-Jarnkrok
Bonino-Kampf-Engvall

Rielly-Liligren
Gio-Brodie
Sandin-Braun

Extras: Holl, Timmins, ZAR

I really really like this roster, especially Henrique, I just fear the price of him. I also dont think we are going to see many moves. Maybe 2 or 3 like the 2020 TDL (Foligno, Rittich, Hutton)

2nd + Hirvonen and Ducks retain 50%

Like some will go hes worth more. Guy was on waivers twice. And is probs the product of Zegras and Terry rn lets be honest. I feel if u offered that Ducks would probs go sure. Maybe u got to send Voit over Hirvonen but either way not bad

Absolutely, again we can fill in whoever we like best:
I would love to see something like this:

Bunting Matthews Nylander
X Tavares Marner
X X Jarnkrok
Engvall Kampf X

Rielly X
Sandin Brodie
Giordano Liljgren

My concern is I’ve played Chel for too long and expecting this much roster turnover is probably unlikely. If I’m being realistic with myself, we are probably looking at:

Bunting Matthews Nylander
X Tavares Marner
Engvall Kampf Jarnkrok
ZAR X X (Knies/McMann/Holmberg)

Rielly Brodie
Giordano Holl
Sandin Liljgren

X
Hunt
Timmins

I feel for the second one if u can get a 3c and push Kampf down that could be interesting

Like think Engvall-X-Jarnkrok. I know some say Engvall needs Kampf but maybe the new guy could change that.

Then a shutdown 4th line of

ZAR-Kampf- Holmberg

Will need to look at all 3c options as we could be on to something

Like if we go priorities

1. 2nd line LW
2. 2-way 3c
3. Upgrade over Holl

Could try

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Henrique-JT-Marner
Engvall-Laughton-Jarnkrok
ZAR-Holmberg-Kampf

Other way around, Kampf needs Engvall. For the all good Kampf does, which is a lot, but is terrible at carrying the puck out of the zone. That’s what made Engvall Kampf Mikheyev so explosive, Kampf digging the puck out and having Engvall or Mikheyev exit the zone with speed. Engvall is one of the best Leafs at zone entries with control. We are a better team with them together

hmmm Gonna have to re-evaluate that as I dont think

ZAR-Kampf-Engvall would be the greatest 4th line

Will do some digging to find someone/s

Is it perception or reality that Leafs do worse against bad teams than other NHL powerhouses?

Can any stats guru's out there create a list of "record against bad teams".
"Bad" maybe defined as below .500 (or below .575 - which is like the median team since OT loss points are given out), or out of playoff spot.
Either for currently "bad" or bad at time of playing - whichever is easier.

Dom Loosechicken did this using betting odds.

The answer was yes. We have the worst record in the nhl over the last 3 or 5 years when heavily favoured

It’s so frustrating that we have to solve this mid season. It was so freaking obvious in the summer

In this case it's probably easier to solve at the deadline rather than the summer.

Explain?

Now you are overpaying and using assets to fill these needs

All UFA’s this summer
Niederreiter
Kubalik
Strome
Rodrigues
Perron
Acciari
Bjugstad
Steel
Milano
Sprong
Donato

Most of these players Leaf fans now want to trade for 🤦‍♂️

All bolded guys are guys I really wanted. It's genuinely so annoying how our summer went, the free agent signings were super underwhelming. Such a gigantic missed opportunity

More guys available, teams motivated to sell, and a better picture of cap issues and play issues that need addressing from both sides. We have hard data on exactly what we need now rather than a vague idea. We know who is Nick Ritchie and who is Bunting

K so following last years limit I traded for 4 guys (Last year Dubas traded for Lybushkin, Dzingel, Giordano, Blackwell-I know he waived Dzingel but u get it)

So rn I got 3 of 4 need to figure out the 4th but so far

1. Adam Henrique (2 LW)

2. Eetu luostarinen (3 C)

3. Nick Bonino (Bottom 6 C or LW)

Probs would see like

Henrique (ret)= Kerfoot + 2024 2nd + Voit or Hirvonen

Luostrainen = 2023 3rd (Ott) + 2024 5th

Bonino (ret) = 2024 4th

Wouldn’t be shocked to see him clear, tbh. 3 different teams already this year and hasn’t been great anywhere

I’m in the camp of not wasting assets on guys you COULD have had for free. I agree with the premise of not signing another Nick Ritchie but I do take exception signing low event players (NAK, ZAR) and hoping that Malgin can provide secondary offence (even though I was hopeful he would have been better)

The Leafs lost 47 goals left from Mikheyev/Kase/Spezza and did nothing to help replace that. They prioritized keeping an injured Muzzin and Kerfoot.

This is how we opened the season with the bottom 6:

Engvall-Kerfoot-Jarnkrok
AstonReese-Kampf-AubeKubel

And what we have now:

McMann Kampf Engvall
ZAR Kerfoot Hunt (waived)

Rodrigues, Bjugstad, Milano, Sprong, Donato were all available. Now we will hav me to overpay to fix this. That’s my issue, with how they went about this roster construction.

Yeah but again, we didn't know who would be good and what exactly we needed. More offense maybe but what kind? Transition is fine, do we want playmaking? A goal scorer? Hard to get both for cheap with the contract limit (remember we were at 50 as is). And we do need guys like ZAR for our depth, we just dont need 2 of them (like hunt), but again. We didnt know who was going to be ritchie or bunting and its much easier to pick up a depth scorer at the deadline than depth grit, and they get you much more bang for the buck in trades too
