The package from an outside perspective seems reasonable, IF the acquiring team believes Gibson's poor play is a result of the team around him. With how badly he's been getting shelled every night it wouldn't surprise me. Bjork is worthless, so it's really just what should be a 2nd in the late 30's/early 40's and a 2nd probably in the 60's.
Our biggest problem with moving Gibson (outside of the fact that he is one of the most loved guys by our fans) is timing. Even knowing Dostal is the future and is basically NHL ready, if we move Gibson, we need to go find a seasoned 1B veteran to pair him with. Stolarz has been great for us, but we question his ability to handle a 40 game work load in a season and his play agianst steeper competition (he pulls all the easy assignments). The bigger problem is there is a huge question mark behind Dostal, we have no AHL goalie. Erikson Ek is not going to be resigned, Clang took a bit of a step back this year, and we signed Alexander to be an AHL backup, but he is a BIG question mark if he ever elevates past 4th on the depth chart.
Now the question becomes, who can Verbeek convince to come play here as a FA knowing they will be second chair to Dostal and play behind a brutal defense? Whoever we find probably won't be half the goalie that Gibson is, and we are going to need a workhorse for a couple more seasons.
It is rough watching him get shelled night in and night out, but I can't see a scenario where the team gets better for moving him, as we wont get the draft capital we want for him, and we will get even worse in the mean time. Bedard watch is all well and fun, but we have other, highly talented players that we need to develop that are already on the team, and building a loosing culture will basically reset our rebuild to zero. It just doesn't work for us.
